Would you date a girl whose mother was HIV+?

The mother actually has more to fear from casual contact with you in terms of being exposed to colds, flu viruses that can overwhelm her immune system than you do from her.
I like the way you think. A lot of the time, you say the things I'm thinking as I read down these threads.

Well depending how the mother contracted HIV. Chances are overwhelming that she either contracted it through IV drug use, prostitution, or having sex, usually wittingly, with someone she knew to have used IV drugs or prior homosexual relationships.

So while there is little risk of the mother infecting the daughter with HIV, would you date a girl who was raised in such an environment and by such a woman?

TC, you haven't met very many women with HIV, have you? Or, at least, you haven't met very many women that you KNOW have HIV...

Chances are you've met a girl that you already like/love. Therefore you'd already know what kind of girl she is.

buy you don't just marry the girl. I wouldn't want a drug-addict, prostitute mother in law. She'd have to be a really cool girl to overcome that sort of baggage (which is possible).

So just because the mother has HIV she's a drug addict prostitute? Maybe she's a nurse that contracted it in the ER or someone who got a bad blood transfusion from years before.

If I'm interested/in love with a girl, she's really cool.

It's not a real-life situation, BoYGeNiUs.

Just a general survey of what people would honestly do in such a situation.

😛 Well I voted yes before I put my reply... so 😀

I have met quite a few HIV positive women in a professional capacity, they were all IV drug users, prostitutes, or both.

I doubt I've met very many in a personal capacity. The prevalence of HIV per capita in my old 'stomping grounds' so small it cannot be calculated within a reasonable margin of error.

Exactly. The risk of HIV is really not the issue here. The risk of a daughter having all kinds of emotional and psychological "issues" if her mother contracted HIV from IV drug use or prostitution is the real issue.

Can't say you haven't been warned.

Put yourself in the girl's situation. Imagine someone won't date you because YOUR mom had HIV. If I was her I wouldn't date a person like that anyway.

There is a risk of the mother dying fairly young and within the next 3-10 years. That might be enough to put off someone that doesn't want to deal with that. I mean, the daughter could become a nut case if/when all that is involved with AIDS starts setting in. Some people can't or don't want to handle something like that. It would be a hard time for everyone involved.

Where do you get these "chances are overwhelming" numbers from. According to the CDC, more than half of AIDS cases contracted by women are due to heterosexual sex. You have no waying of showing or backing up that these women are prostitutes, or knew their partner used drugs or had homosexual relationships.

CDC

Is this some kind of sins of the father thing? There's nothing in the question about some kind of character flaw with the girl. If the girl's fine, who cared about what environment she was raised, just how she turned out. How can you turn against someone for something they had no control over, especially when they managed to overcome those difficulties to become a person you like.

well, i voted yes because possibilities of infection on the girl are slim to none, unless she has incestuous lesbian affairs with her mother, in which case i wouldn't be dating the girl.

But if the mother was really hot, i'd vote no. I'd probably end up getting horribly drunk one night, have the mother seduce me, and find out 6-8 months later that I have contracted VD.

This is an absurdly ignorant question IMO. Anyone who is scared of this kind of issue has no business dating at all (and apparently that constituency makes up a statistically significant percentage of the overall population of ATOT).

don't worry, the transmission from mother to daughter is extremely low since theres no intra-anal contact. foot up ass does not count.

I wouldn't be worried about contracting the disease so much as I'd be hesitant to become emotionally attached to the daughter and mother, who doesn't have much longer to live.

What risk? There isn't any.

As for emotional baggage, many people who are HIV+ are living quite a long time nowadays. Look at Magic, forgodssake. His case is more common than most people think. I personally know an HIV+ person who has had the disease, symptom-free, for more than 15 years.
