You know what disgusts me. The s2000 has a high rev engine. That means that the power band is around 4500 rpm and above. It just makes me nutz when people shift at 2500 rpms and say that the car is slow. WTF?!? Whadda think @sshole? You need to get the revs up there!!!!

yep, if you can't conform to the car, don't bitch about it - it's an unforgiving vehicle :)

Personally saving for a z06 or viper, depending on my various business ventures. Because when properly modded, larger displacement engines are just so much more exciting. Twin-turbo vipers give me an erection.

You guys are funny. Maybe a V8 Camaro is faster on the dragstrip but hey, roads have turns and I belive a S2000 will smoke a stock Camaro. And I am talking handling here, not 1/4 mile racing.

Z28's handle much better than the stereotype. No, it won't be as agile as an S2000. But I would put serious money on a Z28 being faster than an S2000 on pretty much any course. What it lacks in handling (which isn't all that much) it more than makes up in the power & torque department.

Honda s2000 - a beautiful weekend car and if you know how to drive a manual properly to get the most out of it. The average person wouldn't want or know how to tap into the s2000 potential. To drive it "properly" you would have to keep your revs between 3500-5500 - that's just nuts IMO for the average driver. A good buddy of mine just returned his s2000 (leased - darn doctors who can write off almost anything) and got a BMW m3 (wow). I got to drive it to Whistler through the twisties and it was a blast. I had to do some practice runs here and there to get my double clutching and feel for the clutch in order before my drive. I also had to overcome the whole image thing of the high revs freaking out the other drivers. Most laypeople would just look at you like you are from Mars little do they know that you are doing what the Honda engineers want you to do.

For the money I would probably get something like a 350z or the new r8 or a murano. There are many nice cars out there. I'm still holding onto my VW Jetta for the moment. Need more power.

I didn't see it covered here, but according to edmunds.com, here are some stats on the S2000:

Max Horsepower: 8300 rpm
Max Torque: 7500 rpm

I shift at my car's max torque of 3000 rpm. How many people, without seeing the above info, would take the car *near* 7500rpm, much less 8300? I wouldn't comment on it's power until I took it that high.

I doubt there's many people with an S2000 that don't realize it's specs, so...

You don't have to shift at 7500RPM, of course. But it would be the most fun and best sounding to do so! ;)

not to mention that for the $8000 difference you can make that camaro into an absolute beast that would tear almost anything a new hole

Since the redline is 9k, I think you would be obliged to let that tach riseeee! ;)

No way!!! :)

I sure would like to test drive an S2000. It seems like the need for high revs would be similar to my old Suzuki GS.

I've driven an RSX, which has essentially the same motor as the S2000 except with an 8k redline instead of 9k.

It's plenty fast, and sounds great at high revs. Wouldn't bother me a bit to own one for daily driving.

I've had the opportunity to drive in an RSX TypeS. It's a very sweet car. It's true that you have the rev it to get the power out of it and that's plenty of power for me.

i don't see how its nutz for an "average" stick shift driver. we're not talking auto drivers u know:p once you get a feel for your car with a shift, u got it. might take longer for some.

Different people have different driving habits. I shift my 240 at 2500 or 3000 rpm. My dad was driving my car the other day and shifted at 3500-4000! I was like "WTF?".

Yea? You could just as easily shift at 5000 - 5500. :p

Personally, no

While I do like the car, there are numerous other cars (Roadsers even) which I would take over the S2000...they are in order of preference

Audi TT (Just love the look)
BMW Z4
Used Boxster
Used M3 Roadster

The other two you mentioned are also great cars but a different genre...of the two I would go for an A4 convertable with those new thin five spoke rims first, and then if that was too much I would go for the BMW...

good luck

Agreed. For the price I think you can do much better.
