I'd love to play a zombie survival MMO where you can actually change the world over time.

As in clear zombies out of a town and hold it while trying to open supply lines to other towns and such?

yeap that would be great.

sounds like a good idea, maybe something along the lines of playing will smiths character in I Am Legend.

Would be tough to keep the game exciting though.. what would you do besides search for food and weapons? Are zombies gonna be just attacking your house/shelter non stop? Could get boring.

Somehow the concept of survival would have to be sped up.

Not really. Sounds like it would be fun for an hour or so then just get boring.

Especially if they were vegan zombies and went "GRAAAINS!" while nom-ing on crops the whole time.

omg i lol'd

And hell yes I'd be interested in a zombie survival game. Either standard sandbox style or an MMO setup. Both could be really cool.

Depends on the kind of zombies. Dawn of the Dead (2004) zombies are fairly fast moving and slightly clever, so they would be tough to blockade unless you had a lot of intelligent help. Two problems I see are 1) what happens with wildly fluctuating number of players in MP/MMO to already established structures/blockades, and 2) sooner or later some loser is going to purposely let zombies in the compound.

It sounds great but really, I doubt it'd ever work multiplayer. After playing a couple of zombie mods for CS/CS:S and seeing what happens, it wouldn't last very long. People usually end up screwing around because they get bored. Even playing with only people I knew, it'd probably get boring after a week or two. =/

Maybe I just like my Resident Evil a bit much.

A friend and i talked about this once. Would be fantastic to make it co-op and allow groups of 3-4.

You could even have some sort of politics system for supply trade and competitions against the other small survivor groups.

Yes because that relates to the original post So much.

I am not sure an MMO would work simply because I like the idea/feeling of possibly being alone in the world. The game could definitely be multiplayer where you and up to 8 friends are spawned in different parts of the city/town and need to find each other. Fending off the hordes would be easier in a group so finding your mates would be beneficial. I really like the idea of following the Zombie Survival Guide and needing to hold towns/establish supply lines.

Man that would be fun.

I love zombie games (which there are remarkably few of even though it seems to be a popular genre), and L4D kind of fits the bill of what I'm looking for, assuming they ever release it. Although it sounds like they're kind of screwing it up by trying to cram all kinds of extra crap into the gameplay now, and delaying it all the time. They should just trickle that shit out like they did with all the other HL mod/games they released.

Anyway, I'm not sure about a MMOZS game. I could see it potentially getting boring unless players had some real and challenging quests. I mean, after you fortify a position successfully it could get dull. It almost seems like this backdrop is better suited to an action game to me. I'm not saying it couldn't be made to work, just that I can see the "I'm safe, now its boring" part occuring without some kind of tweak or twist on the gameplay.

Oh man, definately yes. I want my zombies slow, none of this super-human crap like in '30 Days Later' and 'I Am Legend'. I also want them not completely retarded; like the Omega Man.

I think a mmorpg in a post-apocalyptic zombie-ridden world would be amazing.

Definitely, and take elements of Road Warrior with it :) I can just see the convoy of survivors trying to make the next town with their salvaged vehicles, fuel, and weapons. Have rival factions, and various levels of creepy undead/zombie people and creatures. Maybe even have some revenants that are much smarter than the average zombie.
