What? Your truck's suspension can't handle an extra ~100 Ibs? I'm missing something here.

I've never shopped there, but I wouldn't have an issue going there to buy things. I would honestly stay away from clothes, but wouldn't look down on someone because they buy $5 jeans.

I'd be more inclined to wonder why someone would buy $200 Diesel jeans.

While in college, we got a pretty decent pool table for $5 or $10; not a slate table, but it was in pretty good shape & something I'd never seen before in the living room of a suite.

Hehe I've noticed the same thing - I drive into goodwill and see a few shiny new BMWs, a Mercedes or two, some Lexuses / Infinitis - a way higher percentage than at a supermarket or electronics store.

I've picked up some good stuff before - a tripod, a set of shimano shifters and cables, some giant logitech joystick, etc.

I wouldn't buy clothes from there but I'd not hesitate to buy some kind of furniture that could be refinished.

I shop at Goodwill. I shop at WalMart. I also shop at upscale stores. Shop, shop, shop. All are good for something. And if you think that clothes at thrift stores are smelly and worn, so are clothes at Neiman Marcus and places like that. People buy something, wear it, and return it, and it's icky. You really have to watch out.

The nice little thrift shops here run by church ladies are super clean. They wash everything that gets donated, even suits and things that really shouldn't be washed. Like shoes and stuffed animals.

I don't care where anybody else shops, it doesn't matter to me.

I believe in recycling, so I do shop there. Lots of the stuff there is also name brand, so how would anyone know if you bought it there or at the mall?

Maybe it is because I have been spoiled all my life, and don't know what it is like to be poor.

i would expect this to be the general ATOT answer.

apparently its not though. i've said it many times and i'll say it again, the responses i see on this forum confuse the hell out of me sometimes. one thing gets a certain response and then a related thing gets a completely different response.
Heh yeah. Take the threads on girlfriends and sex. The most recent had the vast majority having "experienced everything", yet in similar threads you got 75% of people are virgins.

Take this thread. Mostly just the OP is all concerned with their image from brands of clothing, and the vast majority are all like "oh pfft I don't care, only losers care about the brand". Yet in very recent threads you got people "well, I don't care for $200 jeans, but I do really really like <brand>, so I pay about $50 per pair". And they don't shop at Walmart cause they are too cool, but you are a loser if you wouldn't shop in a thrift store.

god dammit, stop responding to the troll threads. Notice how he hasn't come back to the thread yet? Maybe they'll go away if people stop giving these idiots attention.

Notice I said "carbon credit buying elitist liberals." Did I say all liberals? Nope.

Touch a nerve there or something?

Goodwill is made to give the disabled jobs. The items they sell are not meant for any one socioeconomic group.

Thrift shops are the original recycling (and yet, you'll never find a carbon credit buying elitist liberal in one).

utter bullshit.

Really? Have you been to a goodwill store? The funny thing is there is NEVER a hybrid in the parking lot.

Do liberals shop at thrift stores? To be sure. Do the elitist, guilt ridden, social climbing, busy body liberals shop there? Nope. They're the same ones that are too good for Walmart too.

I qualified my answer, too bad you were the one that lumped all liberals together.

Hahaha... So the OP's thread backfired and he's convincing MORE people to shop at thrift stores.

I love shopping to thrift stores, the goodwill near here is in a NICE area and they get some great stuff. I've picked up some great furniture there. I'll see plenty of Mercedes and Lexus in the parking lot each time I go.

The stores for goodwill and the salvation army are just a small part of the organization. Their purpose is to bring in money and provide jobs. They'll employ people that need job experience and a reference (homeless trying to get back on their feet, former prisoners, etc) to help them out. Beyond the people you see in the stores there are large sorting facilities also. Going and buying things helps people, it's charity that can get you something nice too.

What many people don't know is that all the clothes that doesn't get sold or it's in good enough shape gets turned into rags for the paper industry. It brings in a good amount of money also.

Wow...talk about flamebait.

Goodwill is like an organized yard sale. I go there one a month- in the past I've scored a 60's RCA record player, an Armani suit for $100, countless pairs of high end Levis for under $10 (new!), and lots of other stuff.

 I've seen Prius's at the Salvation Army store. And there are thrift stores in SF, Berkeley, Cambridge, etc which are some the most liberal cities in the country.

Stop your weakass stereotyping.

I personally wouldn't, but I said I wouldn't shop at Wal-mart 5 years ago cause I thought people who went there were poor losers. Now that I have grown the eff up, I go there all the time. Still... old clothes, old sweat, old stains...

I don't shop there regularly but its actually a decent place to go if you're looking for something disposable for a self made Halloween costume.

Dude, by definition an "elitist" wouldn't be caught dead at a thrift store.

And again, just because those are liberal cities doesn't mean the thrift shops are frequented by elitist liberals. More than likely the broke ones who don't think they're too good for thrift shops or Walmarts.

I went several times in college to but clothes for theme parties, and I almost always found something else there out of the blue that was perfectly good and marked down like 95% from retail. TBH I still wear several clothes I got from GoodWill for parties, although admitidly they are all my workout clothes, or "wear around the house" clothes, but still there is nothing wrong with the clothes, they jsut usually aren't gonna fit the "business casual" type stuff you would wear to the office.

Where's this definition of elitist? So, elitist conservatives wouldn't go to one of these places either? Or just not liberals with hybrids?

I've already shot down your argument, so please just stop.

So, what's the argument for seeing a BMW and a Prius at the Salvation Army store? I'm guessing they must be elitist conservatives?
