"Fighting is part of the game. Apparently you know nothing about the history of the sport. What would you take away next, the hitting or bodychecking? Fighting IS real "hockey playing"."

This is only for the NHL right?

I hope they are not teaching the kids in little league/high school/college that this is real hockey.

<----sorry not a hockey fan and admit that I do not understand the need for fighting in the sport of hockey.

Fighting is not allowed in high school or college hockey.

There are many arguments for and against fighting in hockey. One of the better arguments for fighting in hockey is that it allows you to protect your star players. Hockey is a very physical sport, and you don't want the other guys hitting your star players (including/especially goaltenders) in a way that is likely to cause an injury. So when someone does put a big hit on your star player, you send out your enforcer to start a fight with him. Then they might think twice about hitting your star players.

Fighting can also change the momentum of a game quickly. But the fight has to start evenly, instigating gets you thrown out.

Anyone who attempted that would receive a Dentist Penalty and maybe even a Hospital Stay Penalty.
