Google bought Android Inc in 2005, so they most likely were looking to get into the market before much was known about the iPhone, however Google had people in positions to know some stuff about Apple that most people wouldn't (such as having a CEO on the board of directors). Google's biggest motivation was to keep companies like Apple and MS from developing a platform and then locking them out.

they were under development at the same time, yes, there probably would have been. No doubt the introduction of the iphone influenced the way android turned out though.

I do think the iphone changed up the market, and it could of possibly been the growing ground for android, since google said "We can do better"

Pretty much, although you do see common elements in that old version of Android and what they actually released.

Well of course there are, but they were not designing an all touch interface from the get go. I don't think anyone outside of Apple knows the roadmap they followed, but I assume that they chose touchscreen pretty early on and worked from there. When Apple unveiled the iPhone in early '07, Google needed to revamp their design strategy.

However at the end of the day, Android is a strong competitor to iPhone, strong in some areas, weak in others and competition is good. Hopefully it will lead to an actual notification system on the iPhone, and maybe Home Screen information.

Nope. Without Apple touchscreen smartphone wouldn't be where it is today. Apple is an industry trend setter.

No, its not, but marketshare IS indicative of sales, which is kinda the goal of a corporation.

1. I was talking about the product itself when I said "sucked"

2. I don't believe they would've been able to mimic RIM's success because of BB's stronghold in the business world

Whether or not the product "sucks" is a relative term. Would it have "sucked" to you? Probably. That doesn't mean it would have "sucked" to everyone, and if it sold anywhere near what Blackberry did, I highly doubt it would have "sucked" to Google, HTC, Motorola, etc.

what are you, a bb fanboy?

i own and use a storm2 and am not ashamed to say that the OS sucks, the interface sucks, the hardware sorta sucks (mostly surepress), the lack of good apps sucks which is a result of the developers thinking that the whole platform sucks.

if it weren't for their dominance in the business world, they would be completely of the suck.
and if the product sucked, it would not have sold anywhere near what bb's do.

ha - hardly. I can be objective about a platform without being a fanboy. Just because the GG&P forums are littered with iPhone and Android fanboys doesn't mean some people can't look at things rationally. For example - you had a bad experience with the Storm 2. Therefore, you irrationally think everything about Blackberry "sucks".

You keep mentioning that it sucks despite its dominance of the business world, and that were it not for that dominance, they would "be completely of the suck", whatever that gibberish means. Did it not occur to you that there are aspects of Blackberry that, in fact, do not suck, which leads to said dominance?

Sales don't lie. Geeks might not like Blackberry, internet polls of business users that don't make purchasing decisions for their company might say people are getting rid of them, but as long as they're still demolishing the competition in sales, well, I guess they don't really suck so much after all.

Anyway, you are quite clearly an irrational troll on this subject, and it really has very little to do with the topic at hand, so I'm going to close this conversation. Have a nice day, sport.

nice of you to assume that the S2 is my only experience with bb's.
before that, i've had a 9700, 8830 and 8100. the only change the S2 brings is a touch screen.
like i said, the whole platform sucks.

oh yeah, forgot about my first bb. the one with the scrolling wheel on the right side. that one sucked too.

Hmm I know I said I was done, but that last comment was so inane, I'd like to leave you with this...

If they sucked so bad, you (and/or your company) would not have kept purchasing them. People keep purchasing them in droves, apparently including yourself, so either they don't suck or they are masters of deception to be fooling people all decade.

One way or another, despite your opinion of the platform, it is #1 in the US by a wide margin, so the platform as a whole, from the company's perspective, clearly does not suck. You cannot argue with this in any sort of intelligent manner, so please do yourself a favor and don't try.

Done for good this time, send me a postcard when you get back to the bridge.

lol that's totally the opposite of what Apple fans say

No, we only say it some of the time.

When it is about Windows v OS X, then market share isn't a measure of quality.

Before Android started overtaking iPhones sold, then market share was an excellent measure of quality

After Android overtook iPhone, then it wasn't a fair measure anymore.

When comparing anything v iPod, then again, market share is indicative of quality.

You just have to know how to flip the switch, that is what keeps us fanboys happy :)

I am an Apple hater, but I love competition. Apple's iPhone is great for cellphone consumers because it forced others to compete and stay competitive.
