If I was an executive, then I could understanding having a group meeting with all my direct reports and heads of departments. But, not for a line level position.

I would say no the applicant's request. You don't get to suit up with the Yankees, until you are part of the team. It would be a distraction to the meeting. You expect the management and staff to honestly contribute to a team/ staff meeting. Sometimes that is pleasant and sometimes not. The interview process is about seeing people at their best. Think of the consequences of taking a girlfriend, you've dated once, to see your family. All of them.
