I think we are talking in the office-type environment. Not to nock nurses, but it's not the same as a job where you will be expected to give presentations to clients and go to meetings with other companies and stuff. You were dress clothes in an office, you wear scrubs as a nurse....

It's not a question of whether or not the person can do the job, its a matter of an appearence of professionalism. A tounge ring or other excessive body piercing or jewelry does not convey that.

That would be a little different. I'm sure clients and bosses and such look down on that type of thing. Still though, a guy or girl with a tongue piercing (NOT a bunch of tattoos, other piercings, a green mohawk) is hardly a big deal/unprofessional, but that's my opinion.

EDIT: In fact, as long as you're there and you do your job well, I could care less how you look (unless you come in naked). I'm definately in the minority with that opinion, though. 😛

Most decision makers at most offices are still from pre-piercing generations. Since in those generations only hardcore punks got piercings, many of them will assume such a piercing means you're heavily into "alternative lifestyles" and are hopped up on goofballs.

True, I mean, I agree with you there, but the people you may be doing business with might not. I wouldn't want something that petty to ruin a deal for my company.
