SolMiester, please stay on topic and stop accusing people of fanboyism, specially with your long history here in this forum. (You used to be a neutral guy enjoying your X1950PRO card and your Pentium 4 at that time before falling low in what you are know doing stuff like trolling and derailing threads)

Not going to bother answering that!

Wow, thanks for all the input guys!

Heat (and consequently noise) are pretty big concerns for me because I like to keep my computer very quiet and i will be running this in a small case (Lian Li A05). I got a taste of silence from the watercooled rig in my sig, so I definitely don't want to hear a graphics card whining away.

I have no doubt that the GTX 460 runs cool so calling it a Thermi may be exaggerating a bit. Based on most of your recommendations, I'm leaning towards the GTX 460 right now but I'm not sure which one I should get.

Can you guys weigh in on the acoustics of your card if you have a GTX 460 or know of a GTX 460 that has a quiet design? And now that the prices have settled down a bit, do you guys think the difference between the 1gb and 768mb version warrants the extra $30-$35?

For resolutions at 1600x900, maybe not. But you mentioned 1900 as well, and at this res, definitely worth it. There's a big difference between the two resolutions (which you mentioned in your OP), so if you settle on one, the recommendations may shift accordingly.
