I agree.

Some truly bad game purchases I've made were Daikatana and Trespasser. Both games I paid full price for at release. I believe each game retailed for $50. I keep them for the novality of it. Trespasser was ahead of it's time in terms of its design. And Daikatana... what more can be said of it?

While the mechanics in tresspasser weren't great (ok, they sucked), the mood, voice over, and music was outstanding. Shooting a dinosaur with a rifle held at arms length was different, but the game was great overall. I finished it and was glad I did, and even repurchased it years later to relive the glory of the game.

That's fine if your opinion wasn't influenced by the multitudes who jumped on the DA2 hate bandwagon at the time of it's release. I played the game without any preconception and find that the majority of it is truly enjoyable. There are certainly questionable design decisions, but that doesn't totally distract from the overall package.

There you go assuming again. I wasn't influenced by the hate bandwagon. I followed Dragon Age from the very first press release back in 2004 (I believe). I patiently waited, and thoroughly enjoyed DA:O. It reaffirmed my faith in Bioware as game devs I could trust...

Then EA bought them, and their influence and direction gave us DA2. The game is a sequel, and it pales in comparison to the first. If it was a standalone game of some new IP I would have researched it a bit more and most likely never bought it after seeing what it was.

I think the underdeveloped physics engine played against the mechanics. Some of the hilarious videos on YouTube could better explain it than any words.

either bioshock (the ending that's not an ending, FUCK YOU!)

or

Dragon Age: Origins (the number of ways i screwed myself were innumerable; the number of times my entire party got stunned and killed was beyond unfair.)

Borderlands
BF2
BF BC2
Breach
Greed: Black Border
Grotesque Tactics
Osmos

Aw, I actually thought Grotesque Tactics was fairly enjoyable despite being buggy and easy $5 game :D

OP asked what's the worse game I've bought. That game is Dragon Age 2. It was a letdown of epic proportions compared to its predecessor.

Begs the questions if the "biggest letdown" is still "worst ever". Going from an A game to a D game is a big let down, but doesn't make that D game worse than F games. DA2 wasn't what people wanted but it was still at playable, looked decent and sounded decent.

For me it's no question, easily the worst game I've personally ever purchased was this turd:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pool_of_Radiance:_Ruins_of_Myth_Drannor

Pools of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor

I played the shit out of the original Pools back in the day, so I was stoked when I saw this was coming out...hard to believe it was 10 years ago. Anyway, the main problem for me was stability. This was easily the least stable game I'd ever played. Crashes; corrupt saved games; after weeks of banter with "support" (even their forums were unstable) I finally uninstalled it and never looked back.

I vowed I'd never purchases another Ubisoft game and so far I've kept my word.

Whats the worst purchase you'll admit to, and why was it so bad?

Same for me, except I didn't last a week. Between all you said plus the fact that it would kill OSes, this was the only game I felt guilty about ebaying.

I purchased Dragon Age 2. It's the worst game I've ever purchased. :)

I never said it was the worst game ever. I'm sure there are many games that are worse, but I didn't buy any of those (most likely because they suck).

I had more fun with Trespasser than I did DA2.

Hmm civ V i guess... It was £6 but tbh it wasent even worth that. I havent bought any bad games in a long time because the interweb warns me away from them long before i hand my cash over :awe:

I remember getting rise of the robots on the mega drive (genesis) and not being able to beat the 3rd robot on it, POS that game was. 2 player wasent even fun because whoever went the cryborg (one of you has to) gets roflstomped by the guy who goes the robot.

It's hard to say. I normally do a lot of research and vetting before I buy any game. I read reviews - actually read them, not just look at scores. I've bought a few stinkers but not many that I would actually describe as bad games, mostly ones that I didn't like and ultimately I didn't get my money's worth from.

Oh, actually, I just remembered one: Painkiller Redemption. What a complete pile of shit.

Dragon Age 2 is good. Mass Effect 2, Dawn of War 2, and The Witcher are excellent. Either you people are spoiled by the multitude of games available, or you don't know what a bad game is. Perhaps both.

I don't think any of that is even necessary, the original post is asking kind of a personal question of what the worst PC game you've ever purchased. I take that as a question of what game that you bought in your life time that you ended up being disappointed with. Whether you disagree or not is irrelevant.

Kill OSes? Explain that to me please.

As for my worst games ever purchased...

I don't know. I guess...Rogue Warrior. I don't know. I have never actually played the game lol
It came with the Id/Bethesda Pack last year. All I know is that it apparently won or was a nominee for Gamespot's worst game of 2010(or whatever year the game came out)

BIT.TRIP BEAT.

Its a cute little indie game that plays like pong to music. Its just stupidly frustratingly hard and makes me want to punch walls. I've tried playing it over and over again and I can't even get like 3 minutes into the first song.

Temple of Elemental Evil = Good
Sins of a Solar Empire = Excellent

They're both extremely boring. ToEE's turn-based combat was slow, the storyline was kinda nonexistent, and the characters were not engaging.

Sins of a Solar Empire was like a turn-based strategy game except real-time, but that somehow managed to make the game play slower. It's got all the stress of an RTS while still progressing at a snail's pace.

Of course, considering I hardly ever buy PC games, and then only when fully researching them, they're being compared to:

Baldur's Gate
Tales of the Sword Coast
Shadows of Amn
Throne of Bhaal
Planescape: Torment
King's Bounty
Neverwinter Nights
Diablo
Starcraft
Starcraft 2
Warcraft 2
Theme Park
Duke 3D
SimCity 2000
Civ
Civ 2
X-Com

etc.

Hmmm I expected more people to say 'Outpost'; I consider myself lucky that my friend ended up buying it before me and saved me from making a terrible mistake.

BF2, not that it's a bad game, but the experience I had with it really soured me. Played the Pre-release demo, everything worked fine and I had tons of fun. 2ish days after release I rush to the store and pick up a copy. Come home, Install, can't Join any servers. Keep trying for awhile, nothing. For the next week I try everyday, nothing. Shelve it for a week, try again after Patch, nada. Let it sit for 6 months, give it a go and it finally works, except I find that my system glitches on the game enough to make me not want to play it.

Mass Effect 2 is the most disappointing game I've ever purchased. I was so excited after playing the first one (and loving every freaking minute of it) and with many people saying the sequel was better, that I bought the game and all DLC, hoping to start and get as engrossed in it as I was the first one. To this day I've made it about 3 or so hours in and have no desire to start it up again. :(
