Do they allow you to watch TV up at Shady Acres?

Yes I have seen the original and other rat pack classics. They are screwball comedies, and most of them were abominable, BUT, that begs the question, why remake something that was already bad? SCTV already remade Ocean's 11 in their famous SCTV 3D, and named it EO 11. All 3 minutes of that packed more creativity than every rat pack and remake of rat pack shit films combined.

Solid story, decent characters, good acting? Where?

Lynch is a god. I don't know why. Could have something to do with the fact that he made Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Lost Highway, and Mullholland Drive. Could be that he only works with excellent talent. Or it could just be that you don't know why, and are content with ultra-mainstream trite, cookie-cutter cliches of films, and prefer having your emotions directed to you in nice neat packages so you don't have to think too hard about anything.

Fail.

My point is that you seem to limit yourself from appreciating the good standards. Lynch is great, don't get me wrong, but for whatever reason those that idolize him are those with severe tunnel vision that tend to think there is Lynch and nothing else. Those that really don't understand film making and story, especially. I like a lot of his work, though I think very little of it is truly magnificent. He's pretty much independent and has his own style, which is great. Oftentimes style with people like this overshadow character. Lynch is great; he's not a genius. Fellini is a genius. 😉

Yeah, I always wondered why remake an originally bad film. I agree with you there. The thing I like about the new Ocean's 11 after watching it a few times (yeah--annoyed with it the first time) is that it's simply a solid caper flick. Everything doesn't have to be mind-boggling obtuse to be a "good" film. Solid story and motivated characters drive any good film, whether or not it's obtuse. Ocean's 11 meets the simple standards of a solid caper flick, that's all.

Thing is, I used to think like you. While I still believe that Thin Red Line is far, far superior to SPR, I can truly appreciate SPR b/c it's an incredible film. TRL is for a different crowd and while it may seem easy to lok down on someone that can't appreciate a film like TRL, it's simply obtuse to not be able to appreciate the qualities of SPR.

Wild Wild West - so freaking bad
The Tuxedo - WTF
The Medallion - move made no sense
Shanghai Noon/Nights
Semi-Pro

How many of these "I'll just name popular movies that other people like and say they're some of the worst ever" threads do we need?

AT can never get enough of them...

Only meaningful if other people really LOVED them, so...

Silence of the Lambs
Saving Private Ryan
Star Wars (any of them)
Indiana Jones (any of them save Raiders)
Ocean's 11 (all remakes suck a D)
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Spiderman (any of them)

Have you seen the original Ocean's 11?

Do you know how fucking stupid those Rat Pack movies were? At least he remake with Clooney had some descent characters, solid storyline, good acting.

I'm guessing you're one of those "Lynch is a god though I really don't know why. This classifies me as a true film guru and therefore legitimately great films like SotL and SPR are utter crap," types of people?

lol i dunno about solid storyline and "good" acting.
