OH, also every time I get taken out of the action to watch some bullshit sequence in any FPS game. So like all of COD BLOPS.

Helicoptermissions in GTA4. Maybe they make sense on a gamepad - but certainly not on a keyboard.

Love role playing games but Fed Ex quests are just lazy filler to pad out the game time

Generic NPC "Hero, please walk across the map to bring this magic mushroom to Bob the Cook. You'll get 50 gold coins"

Ugh.

Also the dwarven catacombs levels in Dragon AGe. Awesome game...but those levels are just tedious and way too long.

You should be grateful they even have them. Video games cost more to produce than they ever have, and most cant make a profit. MMO's are the real money makers today and thats part of the reason we cant get a good single player experience.
The other part is also affecting Hollywood right now: Lack of good writing. Somebody needs to find a good fantasy book series and make some games based on those. Am sure the author would relish a chance to see his works become super popular. The chick who did Harry Potter is probably making mad money now.

sidequests in most RPG's. just filler and no depth outside main quest.

I actually like some amount of side quests. Particularly if they lead to areas or (non essential) missions you wouldn't otherwise need. Agreed that the "Take this over there to that guy" missions really are kind of lame, but as with life, not everything is going to be about a single main quest. So a little bredth to the game is more than welcome in my book.

I hated the blurry vision in Call of Cthulhu when you started to go insane. That really ruined the game. Also some of the checkpoints were spaced too far apart.

All of the alien gameplay in Crysis.

I am the only person in the world that found the zero-g alien stage in Crysis fascinating.

....it was escorting prophet from fire to fire when his suit malfunctioned that I hated.

Metro 2033 was terrible for this. The first hour of the "game"...about half of it is cut scenes.

I think I am the only person ever that didn't mind the driving missions in Mass Effect.

Can't change auto-randomly assigned squad in the BF3 Beta. So you can't group up with your friends.. also no VOIP. XD

Sure the game isn't out yet but I figured I'd toss that in.

I thought they were ok. Got a bit old fast, but wasn't really annoying either. Mineral harvest in ME2 were far more boring.

The entire last act of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. *Spoiler Alert* (although if you need a spoiler alert for a ten year old game, well, I don't know what to tell you...)

So you've been captured, knocked out, stripped naked, and then set free to run around covering your junk the way any super-spy would in that situation. Ordinarily, this would be about as bizarre as a major game would get before the producers started wondering if maybe people wouldn't buy it, but not MGS. Oh no. No, Hideo Kojima ups the surrealist ante when the Colonel, who normally only calls to give you missions or Earth-shattering plot twists, starts phoning you up to talk about how he prunes his chrysanthemums or tells you to turn the game console off. Then the screen randomly goes into the "death cam" shot and you get the inevitable message of failure: Fission Mailed. Wait, what?

OK, so that's all a complete mindfuck, but less in the "whoa, that's AWESOME" way, and more in the "is Japan's drug policy really that much looser than ours?" Soon after, you're reunited with your clothes, and proceed to fight off approximately 275 Gundam Mechs... I mean, Metal Gears. These things are supposed to revolutionize warfare, but they're no match for the raw sexitude of Bret Michaels' stunt double. Then you're treated to more bullshit from the phony Colonel and it turns out that you've been in the Matrix the entire time and reality is simply advanced AI.... What the fucking fuck? A video game franchise that achieved success through cohesive and compelling story-telling really just went with the "It's all a dream" approach? I suppose that's not too much of a shock in a game where your main enemies are a vampire and a chick who's so badass that bullets dodge her, but come on.

I couldn't play the MGS games after this. I'm sure they're good, but seriously, the way MGS2 spiraled into the seventh layer of stupid, deus ex machina, bullshit story-telling hell turned me against the franchise forever.

That's where I gave up. Had fun up until that point and just got tired of it.

Irenicus' Dungeon, if only because I replayed that game So. Many. Times.

(yes, eventually a mod came out that let you skip it, that's how annoying it got!)

I enjoyed this as well. It was tough, maybe that's what people didn't like...

Same thing with Far Cry. So many people bitch about the part where the aliens come in, but I thought it was tons of fun.

Fable 2 ending. You spend over 20 in-game years preparing to fight your enemy and it is utter fail. In fact, if you dont do a thing another character take him out. Epic fail.

Also, any GTA game with RC cars or planes just suck. I actually never finished GTA3 because of the stupid rc helicopter mission.
