I have seen four of the five seasons. Now that it's over, I'm going to have to say that I liked season five the least.
I tried to watch the others and they made no sense because I would miss an episode. Also the previous seasons seemed to be full of more "omg trace the ip back through the bit-net log and find out where they are!" type crap. That stuff is an insult to my intelligence.

.Be realistic guys. Sure, it's a TV show about a 24-hour span of events. The most important thing in that sentence is TV show, not the 24-hour span. If you pick an entire series apart by how long is actually would've taken someone to have sex, or just how unrealistic it was for the chinese guys sail off in 10 minutes time, then do us all a favor and keep watching your Full House reruns.
If you were to watch them all again, season 1 would be the worst. So much nonsense, manipulation, and illogical twists... the "mole" revelation was preposterous and did not make sense based on things that happened in previous episodes. The whole kim in danger stuff was way overdone. Even though season 4 and 5 had a lot of bad moments, nothing comes close to the eye rolling of season 1.

I thought 5 was the worst because it had too many illogical things that I just couldn't ignore, the first of which was the whole gassing of CTU incident. C'mon, a guy who security has never seen in their life can just walk into CTU with a full access pass and no questions asked? I can suspend my disbelief because I like the show overall but sometimes they go too far.
Season 2 was my favorite. For some reason it felt like the most believable plot out of all of them.

Unless you watched all the seasons and in order, you shouldn't be able to vote, and you should be shot, in the head, twice for good measure.

i wont be voting because i've only seen season 5. i want to go back and watch at least one or two of the seasons on dvd before season 6 kicks off. we'll see how much time I really have starting in the fall semester. could get one or two knocked out this summer though.
but i really liked 5, and i heard it was the first one to deal with corruption in the government, which is a great theme. just by that alone i couldn't imagine it being the worst season. i liked the season all around, and the few illogical things i dont think about because its called tv. ctu doesn't even exist so that could be considered illogical altogether.

Season 5 didn't tie up some story lines:
Bluetooth headset guys. who were they? I better not see them at the end of season 6
Wayne Palmer. Where did he go.
Secretary of Defense. He survived, but didnt explain how or even show him.
Kim and Barry. How useless were these two, why were they even written in?
The russian sub was so stupid. It felt like filler, for the last 3 hours.
It seems like the show climaxed when Edgar, Lynn and Tony died.

I rented seasons 1 - 4 on DVD and watched them all in order, then watched season 5 as it aired on TV, so bite me bitch ...unless you bite hard, in which case please bite softly as I have sensative skin and am in touch with my feminine side and might cry.
That being said, season 2 was absolutely awesome. 1 was novel, but 2 was better. Here's my rundown from best to worst:
2 > 1 > 4 > 5 > 3
I like 5 quite a bit, but I do agree with all of your points here for the most part.
And I like astrocase's attitude! Jack Bauer owns.
And hey for once, I at least almost agree with Nik. I'd order it like that prolly cept switch 1 to the best one. I really really like 2 cause Pres Palmer is in his prime, he's portrayed as an awesome pres and acts the part very well (as in season 1 I guess too).
I don't think realism or characters building have been 24s strong points. Rather the suspense. and yeah the tech lingo they use is lame... ex. "oh no not a phoenix firewall!!" i laughed hard at that one. still the show does have its strengths which is why i enjoy it.
LOL. It was the lame leet speak I was refering to. To each their own on which season they like or dislike. I personally liked all of them. One wasn't the greatest but I can't remember which one it was. We should do a little summary for each season.
I HATED Season 1. That's the only one I'll never buy on DVD. I'm a HARD CORE fan of the show, but I agree with Kremlar, the entire "free/kidnapped" story went back and forth too much.
IMO, there is no other comparison to Season 2. Best one EVAR!
Summary for people to remember:
Season 1 --> Victor Drazen, President Palmer running for election, Assisanation Plot, Teri and Kim's story, Jane York, druggies, Amnesia, Nina, etc
Season 2 --> Nuclear Bomb in LA, (Kim being a caretaker, psycho dad, wanted by police), Nina, the Rogue Army Unit, Yousef, Kate Warner, The Cypress Recordings, Sherry Palmer, etc
Season 3 --> Salazars, The Hungarians, Nina, Mexico, Chase, Prison Break, "Russian Roulette" by Prison Inmates (Kick A$$ episode by the way), Steven Saunders, His Daugher, released virus in a hotel, Michelle's story with Saunders, etc
Season 4 --> Heller and daughter being kidnapped, Jack going after them, Habib Marwan, The "Sleeper Cell" here in the US, Chinese Embassy, Nuclear Plant meltdown, Defense Contractor, Jack hiding from a corporate security force in a section of the city that has been affected by an EMP, Audrey's shady husband, Tony's cut foot, etc.
Season 5 --> Jack back in Action, President Palmer's story, Russians at an airport, (FLANK ONE!!!!), Major characters dying, nerve gas in CTU, nerve gas at a mall, attack on the russian president's motorcade, Aaron Pierce FTW!
