marathon on espn2 right now
used to watch this stuff in college all the time. late night after springer, the benefits of no class until 2:30

i'm assuming this, uh, sport, is dirtier than cycling

Is Marius Pudganowski (I'm pretty sure that's completely wrong name) still completely dominating? I remember watching him just destroy everyone else, and he looked like some of the guys he was giving up a good 75-100lbs on. A lot of the guys look fat, he looked like a body builder.

I remember seeing some of the old ones with that Kaz guy who was one of the announcers.

I've seen a few episodes of the 2009 or 2010 competitions and Marius has retired I think. The US actually has a strong contender, named Brian Shaw or something. Guy is tall and huge but looks to be in good shape...much better motor than most of his competitors.

Yep, it is Mariusz Pudzianowski (I was closer than I thought to be honest). Also it was Bill Kazmaier.

being "fat" can actually be beneficial as whenever you try to cut fat you lose alot of strength as well, however not being able to breath isnt beneficial😉

I remember when it was dominated by those huge ass nordic guys who didn't look like bodybuilders, but were just strong from lifting tractors on the farm. Magnus ver Magnussen and Magnus Samuelsson etc.

Pretty sure you're right about Marius retiring, as he's now focusing on his MMA career. Unfortunately, he hasn't been nearly as dominate there; the guy just has too much muscle mass, so he always ends up winded by the second round.

He should focus on grabbing people and squeezing until their bones turn into paste. :awe:

Like the MMA, this was a LOT better early on when it was just a bunch of big guys and goofy events (like they had just stepped out of a bar and into the alley to challenge each other). I stopped watching WSM when it became an actual sport with specialized professionals.

"He is also noted as being among the loudest anti-steroids voices on the strongman circuit. Something that attracted the attention and sponsorship of Golden-based AST Sports Science"

I'm liking this this guy if this is true.

He's got some impressive personal best records: 😱
* Leg press : 3,000 lb
* Bench press : 1,000 lb
* Squat : 1189 lb
* Deadlift : 1,001 lb
