I feel for those of my species who are not as well off as myself, just as I do for those animals that have helped us get to where we are today. Those others we choose to protect to our detriment are worthless.

Nature has its value, but why do you assume what we do is unnatural? It's perfectly natural for a beaver to build a dam. So why is it any more unnatural for man to create? It's our nature to do so. If we could build a better life sustaining system than is currently offered to us by the great mother Earth, we would.

Natural doesn't mean it's correct. Lead is natural and that messes us up pretty bad. Overhunting to extinction then dealing with starvation due to overhunting is natural as well, and that's bad too.

Humans actually do a lot of things that work against natural in order to preserve nature. If we have too many of X species and they're causing a dramatic decline in Y species, we issue a certain number of hunting licenses then let people kill species X. If a population gets too low, we make it illegal to hunt that species or put certain restrictions (it's illegal to shoot a female deer in some places). Nature has been trying to get rid of retarded panda bears for quite some time and we're the only thing holding that back.

I bought my carbon credits from Al Gore - That should take care of it shouldn't it? Or higher taxes?

I am all for keeping nature around and preserving what must be preserved, but we will consume this planet eventually.

I'm not saying it's inherently unnatural for us to modify the world, I'm saying that the majority of humans appreciate the world's unaltered state and the animals that live in it. It just seems like you want us to live in an uglier and less pleasant world. I'm not sure why anyone would want that.

Nothing warms my heart like seeing a human defend our profligate destruction of the environment as if it's virtually something to be proud of.

The "free market" lovers (aka, the libertopian rights) would love to think that the world is so much better with a small government and more "personal property rights". However, the very initialization of the EPA shows that companies don't give a shit and won't ever give a shit if it stands in the way of profits. Even if corp. execs were held personally responsible it wouldn't matter, most think they don't get caught and will suck the earth dry for a few bucks more.

There was the Alcoa plant which tossed tons of toxic dust into the air in TX, stripping paint from cars but denying any problems. There was another one (or was it the same?) that dumped hundreds of tons of mercury in a lake and never told anybody until people started dying from contaminated fish. It's now a SuperFund site.

Then there were situations like the Montana copper magnates that effectively fucked over MT water and landscape to stripmine the shit out of copper.

People just aren't factoring in the actual cost of fossile fuels into the equation of energy. If oil is $100 for a piece of energy and renewable is $150, is the environmental impact of oil $50? Probably, considering the dramatic changes and known issues.

It's no surprose a777Hypocrite doesn't care and thinks the "market" will fix everything.

I don't understand why we continue have the discussion in this vein. We are not going to reduce carbon emissions to 0. It simply won't happen. Our CO2 output will continue to be too high. So what is plan B... science needs to be working on plan B, instead of pressing society for something that will never and can never happen.

I assume you mean a777pilot.

Ah, but I do care. I am a hunter and fisherman so I have a love of the outdoors, and do all I can to keep the air, land and water as clean as possible. I just don't want an uncaring big brother government telling you and me what is good for you and me. I think both of us are smart enough to make our own decisions about how we live.

Yes, I do believe the market place will solve most of our problems. That is the history of the free market. Well, there is never been a totally free market place, but what government regulation there needs to be ought necessarily be, well.......the government that governs least, governs best.

I can't understand why anyone would want a government that has more power that controls more of your life.

TED Speech

A great speech I watched a year or 2 ago on the same subject. Over fishing, dying reefs, etc., etc. Regulation has to exist in order to control human greed. Same with any industry. There is no other choice.

He put the information right in front of your face. Private companies pollute like crazy with little to no accountability. How would reducing the power, size and scope of the EPA keep massive pollution from occurring?

a777Hypocrite, the market hasn't done dick to solve the problems of pollution. It wasn't until the EPA that they even cared about it. The rivers of the country were in horrible shape, the East River and Hudson were disgusting. The country has improved dramatically with "big brother" looking over the industries. Do you really just wonder why a couple brothers worth $38bn, who are continually fined, want to get rid of the EPA? Perhaps it's because they don't give a flying fuck through a rolling donut about the environment, they just want more money at the expense of everybody else.

But, of course, a777Hypocrite wouldn't know anything about that. You're a "do as I say, not as I do" "ME ME ME" righty.

He doesn't give a shit. He's the typical righty hypocrite. Just like Spidey. He's all for "small government" but when it comes to free healthcare, pensions, or like Spidey's wife, a generous government-paid salary, they don't give a fuck about their agendas. It's why a777Hypocrite got his name.

Oh, you miss understand me. I don't want to reduce the power, size and scope of the EPA. I want to do away with that agency all together.

I would do away with the EPA. It's a worthless and expensive agency that needs to be done away with, and soon.

LOL. Are you fucking joking? If it wasn't for the EPA regulating pollution, waterways and lakes would be just as polluted as they were.... before the EPA.

The free market doesn't regulate pollution. Period. Are you familiar with how polluted China is? Did you know a lot of third world countries still have leaded gasoline? Do you know where the mercury in fish came from?

"We have to bring down CO2 emissions to zero within about 20 years," Professor Hoegh-Guldberg told BBC News.

He's insane, because there is no possible way to ever bring down those emissions to zero. Unless of course you kill off every living thing on the planet, but then you end up starving the plant life, which then dies, and the planet becomes a barren wasteland. Bravo! :D

Actually I am not fucking joking. I would also get rid of the Energy Department and the Department of Education. There are others I would get rid of too.

Why do you think I am joking?
