Here is
some of the best Iwo Jima footage I have seen to date, unedited with play by play with the story told on cue cards written by the camera man describing the action taking place that day. Note the time:
0930- cold (Man sleeping, another shivering)
0950- held up by mortars (some illegedable witing, possibly tank? Note tank is receiving fire)
1015- air support (Suppose it's to take out the mortar team?)
1017- fatigue/cold (airstirke lasted 2 minutes? Probably longer)
1050- removal of walking wounded
112?- (Illegible text) Attempt to follow rocket team, possibly says air to air?
1125- 2nt Btln still pinned down by mortar fire
1320- airstrike- Illegible text, something about panels.
1325- E Co 2nd Btln 21st ?division? (affixing bayonets, preparing for close quarters? possible charge?)
1337- Attack Stalls due to MiG (Machine Gun) and ?rifl or nifle? (rifle?) fire, heavy. Bazookas seen, often used to take out Japs burried in caves or fortified MiGs
