It was widely reported at the time, at least in military circles. Thank goodness for Jackson countermanding the order and the Brits for not immediately following it. I don't know if World War III would I resulted - I suspect not - but things could not have gotten better from this command.
 
You realize that if there were real truth to that he would probably not be alive right now.

There is incontrovertible proof and he is alive, so, please, treat us to the details of your counter-factual thought process here.

The option to just encircle the Russian troops seems so much more obvious and appropriate than a headlong immediate attack. What does Clark say? IMO, this event raises questions about his judgement etc.
