It was widely reported at the time, at least in military circles. Thank goodness for Jackson countermanding the order and the Brits for not immediately following it. I don't know if World War III would I resulted - I suspect not - but things could not have gotten better from this command.

The option to just encircle the Russian troops seems so much more obvious and appropriate than a headlong immediate attack. What does Clark say? IMO, this event raises questions about his judgement etc.
