Couple of interesting tidbits posted so far...

------
2005-07-07 11:57:00

The player in seat 4 at table 128 has found a way to "mask" his emotions at the poker table . When he is in a hand he puts on a giant authentic Elmo costume head. That's right, Elmo. From Sesame Street. The T.V. show.

No, it's on ESPN in a couple of months. I think they start the earlier events in a few weeks. Main event coverage probably wont be until beg of Oct. Might have a list on their site since they had a list of airings at the event.

I wish they'd cover it live. I'll bet it would get decent coverage. Of if not live, atleast air it maybe a day or two after it goes down. Months is to long :(

I understand why its not live though, there would be a lot of dull moments and they obviously need to edit it. But why not within a few days of when it goes down?!?! :(

moneymaker sucks, he was just lucky the first time around.

He doesn't suck. You can't get THAT lucky, you have to have some skill... and I think he does. For instance, look at the heads up play with him and Farha. He outplayed him clearly, he had some awesome bluffs there. He may not be the best player, but I do think he is good.

One of my favorite players was Dutch Boyd, I hope he plays and does good this year.

Only about 2000 people play each of the first three days. Not sure which day Moneymaker plays. So many people and only 200-and something tables, so it's divided into 3 flights this year.

longshot (well, for anyone for that matter).... main event is slowly being degenerated into luck with the number of participants.
There is no way anyone gets to the final table with pure skill. chances are at every table 90%of hte ppl u are playing with u havent played before.
Thats why WPT usually offers good watching poker since everyone has played with almost everyone before....and its great to see how they play a hand depending on th opposite player(s).

I certainly agree for the most part, but there is still skill involved. Dan Harrington has gotten to the final table the last 2 years and is a solid player. There's more than just luck. But yeah, I do agree that in tournament play with this many folks, it does require a lot of luck. But, that's a lot of tournament play. Like you, I love watching the WPT, but to see a table mixed with amateurs, Sunday home game players, and pros, it's fascinating to watch the pros have to switch gears on a dime to combat the amateur play. I don't see this changing for quite a while, at least in the bigger tournaments. I also think this makes it so appealing to folks to watch, because it's someone anyone can enter if they have the money and anyone can win.

everyone gets lucky even the pros. moneymaker hasnt remotely hit anything since he has won a bracelet in 2003. and ive been watching his playing style all year. his luck ran out.

you won't win the main event just getting lucky and skill isn't going to carry you there either

it takes both to win

yup...i wasnt implying skill isnt necessary. You def. need to have that. And i would agree that almost all who participate (if not everyone) have a good amount of skill to be able to just throw 10000 in a tourney like that. its fun to watch too, but if you wanna see real pros heads up, WPT gives it to you.

gonna try to get on PP once they start showing it on tv, cus soo many amateurs play at that time, its insane. last year i made like over 2 grand just playing for 3 months or so. then i stopped cus most of the amateurs who lost stopped coming it, and its just gets on ur nevers after a while (i still think PP sets ppl up sometimes :p )

You know a lot of poker is luck but the other half is skill.

Remember Rounders? "The same guys don't keep getting to the final table in the WSOP because of luck" Exactly. It's skill. In the 2 years I have played online I have learned quite a bit. Even before I started playing online I thought I was good in live poker... nah now I think im about 300x better. And still I have a logn ways to go.

I honestly dont have respect for some players though.. Greg Raymer? If EV is positive go in? Rofl. I mean he went in 98 off in the tournament of champions like a nut. If you watch a lot of his plays, he just got extremely lucky especially as he was approaching the final table.

I've had the worst of luck at PP actually. I have playing there. More like I just go on tilt because the interface sucks. Hahaha. I dont want my parents yelling at me for those PP beeps so I always act quick.... too quick at times.

Raymer is a great player and yes, if EV is positive, you should go in. Nobody has ever become champion without getting lucky. Its not like he made any huge suckouts.
