For me, WoW can be boring or it can be really exciting. Much of that depends on the class I am playing and who I am playing with. WoW is very much a social video game.

My suggestion:

Try some different classes out and join a casual guild. Don't judge a class until you are at least level 30 since the skills you learn can make a world of difference. Also, do some internet research on the different talent trees for the class you pick. Certain talent specs can make a class very boring to level while others make them a lot of fun. I realize you are not at a level where that matters much yet, but you will see. What class are you playing now?

I played for a year and a half had 2 70 toons. The only thing that kept me playing was that my friends were playing. The game itself is not that good. That said, it was the best MMO I have seen (LOTRO, EVE, Guild Wars, etc) I quit about six months ago and will most likely not go back. OP, I would hang in there until at least lvl 40 and then decide if it is right for you. Lvel 12 is not enough time to make a decision. Also, try to see if you have some friends playing or make some. That is the fun part of the game.

WoW had really good graphics back when they called it Warcraft 3..... :D

Blizzard has never been bleeding edge in terms of tech/graphics, but they obviously do something right judging by the sales of their games.

LOTRO does have an amazing graphics engine that will bring even the fastest rig to its knees. Its just the art that completely blows.

Personally my favorite MMORPG was FFXI in terms of gameplay, although the downtime between the fun parts is a major weakness of that game. But in terms of combat, design, challenge and complexity I find it much better than other MMOs I've played.

Must turn off account.

Eh, you gotta ask yourself... what would you have done instead :p.

WoW absolutely hurt my ability to play FPS games :(. I was originally an arrow'r when it came to moving, but then I switched to WASD... thing is, WoW uses 'A' and 'D' as turn instead of strafe. So I learned some freaky movements involving holding the right mouse button down which will make 'A' and 'D' turn into a strafe. Sometimes I'm a keyboarder for spells and sometimes I'm a clicker, but regardless of how lazy I decide to be, my keyboard movements for moving are crazy .

But you kinda can't use the right mouse button for that in FPS games, so I'll be firing off secondary fire in UT often .

EDIT: I was also fighting this one hunter the other day and he said something to me like, "damnit, I can't even target you, you move around too much!" I just remarked that I used to play FPS (UT) so I'm used to moving a lot.

Yes the game is quite boring. The pvp side of it is an absolute joke. The PVE side is blah.

To be honest the only reason I still have a sub is because a friend and I are leveling up a paladin\druid combo. If we werent doing that the cancel sub would have happened 2 months ago.

That said we only play about 1-2 times a week tops. In my off time I never log in.

I think it's VERY boring.

I can even play it for free, my brother plays on a free private server with about 1200 people at any given time, they have XP mods, interesting items, etc etc... And I still think it's boring.

I've always been WASD, and yeah it took a while to get used to right click on the mouse. At 60 I mainly PvP'd on the mage so it was easy for keyboard with a few clicks here and there... Once I hit 70 and it was Priest/Paladin/Warrior in arena I binded everything for the most part. F, Z, Tab Ctrl+those, Shift+1-5, etc.

I found on my warrior I am constantly strafing/circling my target with right click trying to confuse them I guess... and myself 1/2 the time. I still fumble at times for my overpower and pummel macros... spamming spell reflection is still a work in progress too. Always biting or the control modifier+F instead of JUST F for some reason. Guess I need to rewrite it.

I just look for Locks and Rogues in BGs since it's the eazysauce.

I just bought the game the other day mainly because a bunch of my friends play it obsessively. So far it's kind of boring. I can see why people get addicted to it but I'm not really having fun like I do in TF2. It mostly just been kill guy grab loot, repeat. Once I get up a couple levels it'll hopefully get better later on when I can actually play with my friends.

FPS and Sports gamers tend to find MMOs boring more so than others. It's a completely different experience.

I wouldn't say it is a gamer-type specific thing. Anyone who has played both genres would know that FPS games are instant gratification games. While MMOs are more like a job, they are based around a sense of achievement and growth.

Also, from every MMO I've ever played, if you aren't playing with friends then the experience is usually 10x suckier. That doesn't mean it's bad, or that people can't solo, I just don't find it the same engaging addictive spirit as when 5 friends start out in an MMO at the same time and choose to play together somewhat consistently.

I actually tend to be a clicker more often than not and the thing is, I'm quite fast at it. Clickers tend to be frowned on in Blizzard games because you cannot produce the same result as fast, but that's not true in WoW. The global cooldown is what lets a clicker still be as fast as a 'boarder. I usually only switch to "boarding" when I'm being lazy fighting a mob... I just hit '2' a lot on my rogue... maybe a '4' if I parry and a '3' to finish 'em off. If things get hairy, I just whip out the mouse.

EDIT:

I don't know... I was a pretty big FPS gamer, but I also enjoyed RPGs a lot too, which I think is what helps me enjoy WoW. WoW actually has a really fun story behind it, but you can literally play through the entire game without even caring about the lore/story, which is a real shame.

Is it just me, or is it boring as shit?

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm only on about level 12, but i'm already sick to death of quests where you have to kill the same thing 50 times in order to collect what they drop!

Does it get better at some point?

The whole game is just targeting something, then pressing numbers to cast spells.

woo..hoo...

Pretty much. Most MMO's use the same old "go do something and come back for a reward" quest system.

Unless you're in a guild, playing with friends, or in it to make money - you probably won't enjoy [any] MMO.

1. Collect resources [mine nodes, pick plants, etc]
2. Crafting [Potions, armor, weapons, etc]
3. PVP
4. PVE [Instances, Raiding, etc]
5. 3d chatting
6. If you are in a guild - helping guild members level up alts
7. Leveling up your own alt.
8. "ebaying" [auction house - buying/selling]

I meant that as a tendency. Not an absolute. There are plenty of exceptions. It's just that some gamers are pickier than others and tend to lean towards certain genres while leaning away from others. This is just what I have observed which is of course very limited from a world wide perspective. I could be wrong.

It's more of the same until 70 (with a few dungeons tossed in) then it turns into a gear grind instead of a level grind.

If you enjoy pvp you can gear up quite nicely that way(and burn a lot of time).

I disagree to some extent. It's all fine and dandy when I get some new gear from an end game boss. However, I've gotten to the point where I just enjoy finally taking down that next boss much more than the gear it drops.

I felt the same, however, once you kill Illidan a few times, you only go back for gear. Bosses never change. People in pvp do (in theory anyway).

Like others had said, the game is very boring if you don't have someone to play with. It's the same with all MMO, but if you have friends to play with or met good people online that you can party up with regularly, then it's very fun.

Same way even pre-BC. You really have to enjoy being around the people that you raid with to make it fun or consider gearing up to fight in the next dungeon (which can still be rather boring) being your primary goal.

Yep it was. Took 37 Geddons to get my binding, over 30 nefs and never saw ashkandi, C'thun never dropped his gloves, etc. =)

If my rl friends didn't play I'd have quit long ago

Yup, WoW really is a lot more about the social community than it is about the game itself. When my guild decides to quit WoW, that is when I quit WoW. Hopefully it will just be for another awesome MMO though. :D
