Another thing about World of Starcraft (or maybe 'Space of Starcraft', haha), is that all the classes would be completely race restrictive. You couldn't have zergling marines...or terran zealots...or protoss ghosts, as opposed to say, WoW, where any race can be warriors, most can be rogues, etc.

It would have to have a very different design from traditional MMO's

In DAoC, classes were race specific. Midgard got Warrior, Hibernia got Hero, and Albion got Armsman. Each had different attributes too. Warrior could double wield or single wield (every other class had to pick one to specialize in). Hero could use a spear and got Spirit Of The Hunt. Armsman could wear plate armor and also got a ranged attack skill in crossbow.

Really? That's interesting. I never played DAoC, but I always regret not having played it during its prime.

Oh yeah, World of Starcraft. Undressed Terran medics dancing on the auction house bridge. Leet-speaking ghosts hopping constantly and begging for money. And lag, lag, lag no matter how many millions Blizzard rakes in every month. Sign me up.

Now if they had active GMs and kiddie servers, I'd think about it. I mean roving GMs in goliaths that would snuff the d00dx0rz in a hail of chaingun fire at the first whiff of Clearisil then boot them to the kiddie servers, I'd think about it. Until then, no thanks to paying for any more Blizzard MMOs.

World of Diablo would be a much better MMPORPG than World of Starcraft ;)

Although it would be insanely harder than just making a separate game, Blizzard should progress WoW so much that it actually turns into World of Starcraft. Who's to say they are separate universes? Maybe Warcraft is just the old, old, old history, and Starcraft is the far, far, far, future.

Start adding tech in the expansions, then airplanes, and keep on progressing until all the earthlings that are in WoW die out or evolve into Terran, then have the Zer/Toss be the NPC side of things, then over the course of more expansions, make them playable as well.

I realize my idea would take literally a thousand years or more to implement for Blizzard, and it would be far more feasible to simply make a separate game.

But hey, it'd be neat. =p

Well they can always do like valve. Release what they can't outdo with a new engine and graphics with the same maps and gameplay. :disgust:

LOL, yeah, WoW works because its basically cramming the WC universe into your tried and true D&D formula of medieval fantasy. StarCraft is a different story. You don't have real "magic", especially not with Zerg or Terran, and thus doing actual damage instead of roll based turns and attacks it would most likely need to be player controlled. Something along the lines of a Planetside type of game. Perhaps force players to choose between Terran or Protoss and fight against endless swarms of Zerg. Perhaps make Zerg an option but on some of the higher class stuff, perhaps you could be a a Hunter Killer or something and lead swarms of lesser troops into battle.

Then there are elements such as space fighters where you could climb into one and take it into combat, something like Homeworld meets Battlefield...only instead of one person controlling everything, you've got scores of people doing the "micro management", and far more peopel than a Battlefield game.

Come to think of it, it would be a lot easier to make a StarCraft: Battlefield type game than it would be a WoS, or most likley SoS - Systems of StarCraft.

That would be a simply awesome idea right there.
I could possibly see it working :)

I'd be delighted to have the opportunity to buy SC/BW that plays exactly the same, but has higher-res graphics and better animations. Doesn't mean I don't hope for a sequel to try to be as good too, but a graphically improved original SC would rock in my book.

Why are we still talking about a StarCraft MMORPG? Something like a MMOFPS would be more like it. Realtime action instead of turn based dice garbage. Blizzard could plan massive battles or something where you'd join in the fight with hundreds if not thousands of other players to take a city or even a world.

While there does not exist a game like such based on the StarCraft universe, there is at least one game that is a MMORTS. The graphics are dated, around StarCraft graphics, maybe even below. However, the gameplay is basically what you seem to be describing. The game is called Shattered Galaxy. It's free to play. Basically you control a squad of units and you battle other people on maps. The game is purely PvP.

I do warn you though, the graphics are again dated and the learning curve is a bit steep. Like all MMO games, there are nice people and there are the others.

On the plus side, it's unlimited freeplay with slight penalties like 10% damage penalty and less exp for your units for one battle. If you wish to pay it's $10/month.

Go to www.shatteredgalaxy.com to download it and give it a try. You might like it.

Blizzard North is Diablo only, from what I can remember legend has it that Blizz saw a good thing in the company making a game called 'Diablo' Blizz bought them out and hey presto, we have the Diablo series by Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard North is the remenants of that company who 'created' Diablo.

Well thats what I've read anyways :p

Intelligent computer AI controlling say Zerg forces. Massive forced battles where hundreds of players stand in units/turrets/bunkers and outside on the battlefield, mowing down endless waves of zerglings and zerg forces.

Sounds interesting really.

It could play like BF2 where 1 side is human and 1 is computer controlled, interesting.

An SC MMO wouldnt work so well. Guns would be difficult to implement nicely and how people progress would be difficult to add in. An SC FPS would fit in perfectly.

It can be done. Ever heard of Natural Selection?
