hehe ranked 60th atm sure it will change while I sleep, but this game owns.
I'm Pringles of 101st, look me up if you want to roll people :)

Oh yeah, I only play USSR too, well unless other people from 101st are on USA because of the MLRS "plume" makes it too easy to target.

USSR Support for life!

(I also like to BMP rush, never underestimate the power of 7 BMPs :) )

Hmm...

For support I like to go 2 heavy artillery, 2 heavy AA, put my heavy artillery behind a tree line relative to the enemy and the AA in front (if its small) or parallel to it, next to them so the AA can see in front of the tree line in case helicopters come.

For armor I'll start out all BMP/Bradly to get the initial captures, and depending on what enemies bring to the front, I'll either go like 3 Heavy Tanks 3 Bradly/BMP or All Heavy or All medium.

Starting the initial push with BMP/Bradly lets you give someone a lift to the zones too. (yes you can lift ally infantry with your personnel carriers) So while the Bradly/BMP are not terribly strong versus a medium/heavy tank rush (they can kill a few) your friends will be able to field more infantry and that will help a lot.

Air, I just go heavy attack helicopter and try to avoid the enemies medium attack helicopter and then patrol their side for heavy artillery and go when people call air support.

Infantry basically I hitch rides and stick in the trees, and once trees get cleared out I move on, I hate infantry tbh.

My biggest complaint is people who don't pay attention when you call stuff, such as LGBs on bridges, or artillery on a massive group of open guys and they keep on shooting at their "own" targets.

Pretty fun game, too bad I can't get it (not really enough money for a new game right now, and I wont have internet come a couple weeks)

Oh yeah, the nuke isn't the end all be all. Well placed LGBs/Artillery/Air Strikes can be far more helpful to the course of the game.

I played INF a lot last night, it can be fun. You j9ust have to get used to losing a lot of guys. If they are supported they can do good damage vs tanks and helos, just keep them out of the enemy artillery(easier said than done, I know :D)

Does anyone else's system slow down a lot during a lot of action ? The tutorial runs great on my system but once I get into multiplayer and into a lot of action it slows down a lot.

Current system

Intel Duo 6420
Geforce 8800 GTS 320 mb
4 gig of ram

The game set up my detail levels to High and didn't complain at all about any warning like if I try to put it on very high though I bet there is not a huge difference anyway like with quake 4. I am running at 1680x1050 because this is my native resolution of my 20" lcd monitor. I tried lowering the resolution but it doesn't seem to change performence any.

Is it that no video card currently can handle this game very smoothly when heavy action is going on ?

Smooth like butter on my system..
Fun to play.
Graphics are nice, but the fire effects are eye candy all the way.
1920x1600 graphic settings very high.

System:
Water cooled QX6700 @ 3.2GHz
Water cooled 8800GTX
4GB XMS2 PC6400
Vista Ultimate64

Hmm I may upgrade to a GTX. Do you have any idea why it runs very smooth when there is not a lot of action? Whenever I move to a area that has all kind of tanks firing it will slow down a lot.

Whats your fps test benchmark please ? Minimum, Average and maximum because it gives you all three and you don't need fraps for it. Its built into the game!

same. seems like a really crappy RTS. i can only get the menus to play in 1680x1050, the game wants to play at 800x600 though...

are you serious? it slows down because there's tons of crap for the system to display and keep track of...this is normal, especially if your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements, and heck, sometimes even if it does.

I figured out the problem. I didn't realize, even though it says High detail settings is fine, High and above is DX10. Medium and below is DX9.

Changed to medium and now instead of my minimum fps being 6 to 17 fps its now 22 fps! With a average of 35 fps! Maximum 52 fps!

With High settings its 25 average, 6 minimum and 31 maximum which is not playable for anyone.

made it to #34, god I am addicted.

Its already getting fairly boring though, I just enjoy the times when I catch a dozen units in fuel air explosions or whatever. I actually wish there was no nuke, cause everyone tries to save for it and doesn't use their TA for anything, well... Tactical... just nukes.

^ I haven't seen that much, nova. I've seen more worthless strikes called from people not anticipating movement. I've played like, 15 games and seen 2 nukes; 1 that did hardly anything and one that took out nearly every enemy unit.

so is this RTS, FPS? Sorry, its the first time ive seen this game.

rts with some fps characteristics. You pick a role or in fps terms a class. Then you try to perform that role as best as possible.

Roles are

Infantry
Armor
Air
Support

I play infantry and some support.

there's nothing FPS about it - its a complete RTS but instead of commanding every single type of unit, you command a certain type, like infantry only, aircraft only, etc. Other players command the other types of units.

do remember this is only the multiplayer component. The singleplayer part will have campaigns, and in those campaigns you control an entire front of the war, so you have access and control of all 4 types of units.

I usually see about 2-3 nukes a game, and I've seen upwards of 8 in one game.
I've only launched like 5 myself though, as I said I prefer to use a bunch of smaller ordinances. (Heavy Artillery, Napalm, Fuel Air Bombs, and Carpet Bombing)

You can tell people save for nukes though, I ALWAYS call for LGBs on the Bridge for opponents (I always play USSR now so its the North bridge on the city map and center bridge on the farm map) and no one will ever fire LGBs at it, I always wind up blowing them up myself. Which I don't mind, but it takes me bit to get the 16-24 points to do it myself, whereas if 2 people hit it once we'd have it out faster.

Or calling for napalm or something relatively cheap on a forest area and people just ignore it, then towards the end of the game all of a sudden it says "Mother Russia is Sending a Nuke" and it lands somewhere stupid and kills like one artillery.

I just d/l it and install and i was hoping to be blown away from the graphics and i am not :(

To me it seems they left a lot out of the DX9 render path compared to the screen shots which must be running DX10. The total environment seems more real in CoH. I am saying this off the benchmark, haven't had time to play the game yet but i would think the benchmark would represent the biggest and baldest of the game.

But overall from what i heard i thought it was going to kill my system and i can say performance isn't too too bad. Max HIGH setting for everything i can click for DX9 with no AA 11/18/28 min/avg/max FPS which isn't bad for a brand new game running at 1920x1200 lol.

I'll play the tutorial later maybe the game itself will out shine what i thought would be the best looking game :(

The physics looks cool though.

Well the MP is a significant component of it--the SP is what you play first, and then you go after the MP, which is the bread and butter.
