Winning? This isn't about Charlie Sheen or a sports contest.

Only a completely biased jackass would claim we suffered a "defeat" in Iraq or that our withdrawal from Afghanistan is "humiliating." Considering Fisk is the UK's version of Noam Chomsky, where every ill in the ME can be blamed directly or indirectly on the US (Why, it couldn't ever be their own fault.), he seems to fit the designation of biased jackass perfectly.

I'm not sure why the rebels should worry about 4,000 Iranians.

The US military has been mowing down Iranian soldiers for the last decade now in Iraq. Considering the US causality count (and I don't speak about this lightly, please don't misunderstand) they don't seem all that effective at their job.

Before that Saddam's Iraqi army was similarly mowing them down. The Iranians aren't the best fighters. Against Saddam they mostly adopted Russian WW2 tactics, numbers.

With only 4,000 soldiers my guess most of these guys will be suicide bombers.

So replacing Assad with a bunch of insane Al Qaeda fundamentalists... more stable or less stable? Because that's what the US is trying to do in Syria.

No. The Syrian people are trying to dump that evil bastard Assad. That is what they are trying to do. The USA isn't trying to do anything. Unfortunately for them anyone that is waiting to take over the country is also an evil bastard...

Lose or lose ... Pick one.

USA should stay the fuck out. No money, no guns, no rubber bands nothing.

So the U.S. is going to arm citizens with "assault weapons" and things so they can fight their oppressive government, while the same people in charge of that want to take guns away from the citizens of America.

people please wake up

The US Gov doesn't care about:

* civilians murdered
* civilians raped
* civilians 'gassed'
* oppressive dictatorships
* "communist nations"
* open democracy in foreign lands

NONE OF THAT IS ON THE US RADAR

the US Gov cares about just ONE THING... US interests

if foreign murderous, rapist, genocidal, tyrranical oppressive dictators ruled every nation on the planet the US gov would not give a flying fuck so long as Those bastard dictators listen, concede and obey US Demands and dutifully serve US interests (military, corporate, economic, etc...).

all of the above token bullet points are pulled out of the grab bag whenever wielding them serves US Interests. they are pretexts and nothing more.

if an obedient evil bastard is in control the US wields "in the interest of 'regional stability' we will not get involved"

if DISobedient evil bastard is in control the us wields "inthe interest of 'supporting the spread of democracy' we will be arming the rebels"... or "civilians were gassed, we're going in"... etc

if benevolent and obedient democratically elected official is in control of a foreign land the US will be supportive.

if benevolent and DISobedient democratically elected official is in control of a foreign land the US will arrange a coup, assassination, etc if at all possible.

winning is destabilizing the region and over 1 trillion of US taxpayer dollars being handed over to the corporate welfare program (military industrial complex). those corporations and the leadership (govt. and military... which is the same thing as the leadership at the private corporations who get the no-bid welfare contracts via the revolving door) are fucking estatic... as are their wives living in their mansions.

* leaders create a trillion dollar war
* leaders for govt = same men and women running corporations with multi billion dollar contracts (revolving door)
* govt (aka leadership) give multi billion dollar no-bid contracts to corporations
* guys running corporations also run the govt
FUCKING GLORIOUS!!!!

people who create war directly benefit from the war... the more it costs the more their associated corporations make, the higher their salaries as the leaders of those corporations.

this is absurdly simple to understand when one has escaped the brainwashing of corporate media and politician's rhetoric.

THE LONGER THE WAR LASTS THE BETTER FOR EVERYONE AT THE TOP.
declaring a war on a noun is an endless orgy of money

If Assad tumbles due to American meddling, who takes possession of his chemical stockpiles? We are literally helping Al Qaeda get their own state and giving them access to WMDs. Who will Al Qaeda use those weapons on? WHO STOLE OBAMAS BRAIN!!!!

If America could round up all the neo-cons and their families, give them rifles and send them to Sryia to fight for their ideals, that would solve half of America's problems.

Yup, and before any of you morons think magical special forces can secure these stockpiles, we were never even able to secure the armories in Iraq with 250,000+ troops on the ground.

When Assad loses control of those WMD the AQ and other whacky terrorist types are going to get them. This is just a dumb move all around to get involved in this stuff.

Better bet would have been to make a deal with Assad to help him stay in power on the terms allows us to destroy and remove his WMD.

You're operating under the assumption that the US Gov. wants the "war on communism terror" to end.

Misunderstanding the motives of the US Gov. leads to this surprise at actions by Obama that are completely predictable and consistent with US Policy since WWII.

Without war or enemies to explode, there would be no justification for spending half of the US Budget on the corporate welfare program known as the military industrial complex. By arming bad guys today under the banner of "humanitarian whattnot" they will be building a future enemy (which is what the US wants) that will need to be attacked... thus keeping the military industrial complex in business.

Bingo. Or are we arrogant enough to believe we can secure these stockpiles when the regime collapses? That worked out so well in Iraq and Libya.
