World Community Grid

Just installed it, powered by the United Devices client and it's running some kind of Human Proteome Folding Project

It has great Documentation

It has the requirements readily accesible,
It has a very nice faq,
and its pretty simple and straight forward to install.

SystemRequirements

Recommended minimum system specifications:
1) Intel Pentium? processor or equivalent
2) At least 128 MB RAM (with virtual memory enabled)
3) 600 MB Hard Disk Drive with at least 30 MB available for use
4) The ability to display 8-bit graphics at 800x600 resolution
5) An Internet connection with minimum 40 kb speed
6) Operating System: Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP

sounds like a great project too.

Human Proteome Folding Project
World Community Grid is focusing on a project key to advancing our knowledge of human disease. By identifying the proteins that make up the Human Proteome, scientists can build the understanding needed for novel and effective treatments for diseases like cancer, HIV/AIDS, SARS, and malaria.

Interesting project🙂
Btw isn't its work related to DF & F@H?

feel free to join 🙂

I've already got the stats page bookmarked for my TeAm's Teams Report, so let's get some points going for the TeAm!

I really like the idea of ibm sponsoring a project.

I took the liberty of signing up the RA so that I can dedicate 1 computer to the cause.

Its only a 2.8 pentium 4 (no ht) but it will run 24/7 (provided the kids (it is their computer) dont crash it).

Hello all. I signed up under anandtech last night. Just thought I'd let you all know that you've got another on board.

I'm at 99% on my first work unit! *shivers excitedly* <---please ignore, it's cold in here.

I'm trying to join, but it isn't letting me register. The client is having problems connection to the registration server. Anyone else having problems like this? Maybe they are overwhelmed with requests right now???

I had trouble getting into the members area but that was because I was using a character that wasn't allowed oops

other than that it went fine.

I'm pretty sure they're having a big spike in registrations right now, so hopefully that's what the problem is.

I'm thinking of bringing my secondary computer online this afternoon. I'll let you know if I have similar problems when I do.

I was able to register now. I'm currently crunching with a p4 2.4, p4 2.0, and a p3 866. No stats or results have been uploaded yet from me. My 2.4 machine cruched about 52% of a WU in 22 hours.

We have less people right now, but our systems seem to be faster. We are about 10% faster right now than them, so we should be able to pass them at this rate...but obviously more people will be joinging, so who knows what can happen. We're down by 2 results and I'm crunching 3 as it is right now. They should be done a little after midnight.

i just added another machine here from work.. took it off SOB, sob was crashing occasionally on that machine anyways, so this should be a worthwile trade 🙂

I've finished a few WU already and nothing is being shown on the stats yet, even though they finished many hours before the last update. I really hope they work on the stats server more. maybe it's due to damand...we'll see. I'm just anxious to see how I'm doing compared to everyone else.
