Yea, that's a pretty shitty schedule. Some of us have friends after work that we like to hang out with. You can't really do that with the graveyard shift.

clarified ya'll, it's not graveyard lol and I'm not single either.

I liked it when I was single, but getting home from work at 7:30 - 8 pm every night kinda sucks when you're dating someone who works 9-5.

that means they have plenty of time to get dinner ready. :colbert:

It's great until you have mandatory meetings at 4:00PM. Bleh. Then you have a 10+ hour day.

well i don't work with complete idiots so no one would do that. any "mandatory" meetings are scheduled around 10am to 2pm.

and if that did happen in the off case, i'd leave around noon on friday.

I can't get up that early :( I remember working 6-3 and having to take naps all the time when I got home. I think my internal clock is permanently set to get up around 7 and go to bed around 11.

i couldn't get up that early either...

until there was a crying baby that woke my ass up. and since i go to sleep earlier now i still get 6 hours or so of sleep usually, although it's not straight through.

I leave on noon every Friday :D As long as you get your work done no one cares about how many hours you put in.

yup same.

EDIT:

my other coworker just had a kid too, day after we did, and both him and his wife work for the company. they are each working 4 days a week now (10hr days), one M-T, the other T-F, so that way, they only need daycare for 3 days out of the week (once she goes back to work).

the birth of my first son has made my work schedule change.

since he is up early as hell and usually around 5:30 or so, i decided that i was going to just get up and go to work when he wakes me up in the morning. and after 7 days of this schedule so far (went back last monday for the first time after he was born) it owns.

i now get in by 7am (usually between 6:45 - 7), and i am outta here by 2:30 - 3pm every day. i miss traffic both ways (didn't hit much before, but there were a couple bottle necks i now don't hit at all, and some days with random traffic that i no longer get), and i get home after going to the gym by like 4:30pm now. i used to get home around 7 - 7:30.

i've been grilling a lot more the past 10 days just because i have plenty of light after i get home and shower and am ready to eat dinner. it is odd though as far as the feeling goes so far. it feels so late now at work when it's only noon or so.

it is pretty awesome though. glad my hours are flexible. i am thinking that once my child is out of this schedule i will still probably try to do this same schedule. i used to be up till 1am every day, but not anymore and i'm going to bed around 11pm now. i was up till 11:30 last night finishing up an app, and it was rough this morning, but every now and then i can do it and be fine.

/blog and getting old

Basically, OP is just now learning you can get in quicker than 9:00AM like the usual chumps? Welcome to the big boys club that realizes time is money and you have shit to do... And weekends are never enough for it all.

ugh. meetings before 10 or after 3 are crap. im really glad we dont do many meetings.

ive considered asking to go in early and leave early. i could get away with it now and again, but honestly, i dont think theyd let me do it as a regular thing [IT support for a manufacturing place]

The problem with it is that it's almost guaranteed for you to sleep in every day to the max point. You go to work, get home at 7-8PM. Cook dinner. Day is done for the most part.

I'm trying to build a garden bed outside, remodel one of our rooms, build a desk, and the other 95 in the "Projects my wife likes to start but not finish" file.

It's even better during the winter. You actually see the sun in the afternoon for a couple hours...

I work for a hospital so sometimes it's the only time I can get the right people at the table and we're on the east coast and most of our vendors are on the west coast. It's impossible to get a meeting started with them before 1:00PM most days. Usually it's more in that 3-4pm range.

Meh.

You get dramatically underpaid for the crap that you have to put up with. EPIC guys easily make six figures around here and only have to put up with limited bullshit.

And when it's time to coach soccer or baseball for your son's team even on weeknights, you are off early enough to do it no sweat.

if 11 people can only make it at 4 and you're the odd man out because you got there at 6a, you probably should stick around until 4.

My boss wouldn't schedule such a meeting. If another team lead did that or one of my peers, I'd point them to my schedule which is freely available on our shared calendars and say I'm not there because at that time I'm

A.) Picking my kids up from school
B.) Weightlifting with my partner
C.) Taking Yoga classes
D.) Whatever else that isn't their business because I'm off the clock. (even though technically I'm salaried)

Not salaried analysts. Consultants, sure. I get bombarded through linked in almost daily for Consultant jobs that I can 1099 for $110 an hour. But they are 2-6 month contracts, no benefits and I'm on the road for 5-6 days a week. Not conductive to family life.

$110/hr isn't really that much when you factor in there are no benefits included.
