Work Hours... if you can chooose!

The first question I asked was whether or not there'd be any job benefits to different hours... of course I was told no...

So right now I am considering 9-6 vs. 8-5... however there are pros/cons of each...

ie: If I work 9-6 I'd workout in the morning in a less crowded gym ; If I work 8-5, I have more hours "after" work when everybody else will be up.

I know it's ultimately up to me, but just wanted to see if you guys have any preferences or see an advantage of one over the other that I don't 🙂

Thanks in advance!

As long as I slept the same number of hours each night, it wouldn't make too big of a difference. But since I'm living with 3 other people next semester, I'd rather do the 9A-6P. Actually no one at my work comes in until 9A anyways, so it's pretty useless for me to come in at 8 A.

I'd eventually like to do 8A since you can get done with it earlier.

I'd do 7-4 if I could.

Of your choices though, I'd probably go with 9-6 just because it'd be less traffic possibly.

I do 7:00 - 4:30 (.5 hour lunch), and get every second Friday off 🙂 Great schedule, though I'm hoping to cut it down to 8-4:30, and still keep every second Friday off.

I would love a 7-4 instead. I work 7:30-4:15 and during lunch I do a good jog and go to the gym after work.

Strangely, I'd take the 8-4. Gives more time to actually do stuff. I use to have 10-6 shifts, my gosh, that was crap. Got home by 7, ate dinner, had 3/4 hours tops to screw around before sleeping again. Assuming you wake up at roughly the same time.

9-6 is perfect.

Carpool ends at 9. The traffic surprisingly picks up at 10 again. Engineers showed up between 10 - 11 at work, and I can guarantee you traffic was heavier at 10:00 than at a time like 9:00. But then again it may be because I work in Silicon Valley and if you're not going to work around 8-9, you're showing up later as an engineer, meaning your commute begins later.

I like 10 - 7 actually because dinner is served at 7 at work. Hey, I used to stay for dinner! =]

If you honestly think you'd get up to workout before a 9-6 job, then I'd take that.

Otherwise I prefer to start early (pia, but I'll wakeup if I have to), and get off earlier.

I prefer the morning hours. I'd go for 7-4. I like to be done with work and still have plenty of time to ge things done in the evenings.

5am - 1 pm. When I used to do it. It's like having a continuous weekend.

Other than that, the best policy I've heard of is the 80 hour workweeks. You need to put 80 in every 2 weeks. So, do 9 hour days and every other Friday is part of a 3 day weekend. Some places do this in hte summer and it is genius.

I'd love 6am-230pm, but since my "schedule" is 315pm-1145pm, any day shift would be freaking nice. I'm a morning person. I'm the guy singing and dancing while running up the stairs. When I'm on day shift I get there 20 minutes early and make coffee and enjoy the feel of morning.

Of course, I'm working something like 10am-12am, so I'm there when I need to be. Come about 8pm though, I started getting really tired. I need to talk to them about that. Sucks being the night-shift supervisor. 😛
