Heads up english-ites, this is free in the UK, i'm downloading now, will report back.
The app itself is free for everybody. But once you're in the app you have to pay for the dictionaries. And based on the demo dictionary that just reverses the words, it doesn't work very well at all. It only works well on all CAPS words with specific fonts. Cool idea, but it needs a ton of work to be useful to anybody traveling.
Then consider me disappointed.
So what? Engadget already showed off the Pleco app which uses your camera and reads Chinese.
This is a bit cooler, but the fact that it costs money isn't that bad.
The downside is I can't Installous it. Whoops. did I say that out loud?
Britain has been invading Spain for years with its lovable tourists.

Very cool, can't wait for the Droid version. Which will be better than this version I'm sure. 😉
There is no lifer forum.
If they add a few more languages and possibly speech recognition/translation of words/basic phrases, I'd buy an iPhone.
I had an app for my old iPaq called Speerio Voice Translator. It had a thousand or so common phrases built in for several languages -- Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian, and I believe Portuguese. You could say the phrase in English and the iPaq would read it back out in whatever language you needed. It did the reverse as well, I believe. The last I heard, they were adding (IIRC) Japanese and Chinese.
I messed with it for a few minutes on my phone just now -it is impressive but the demo is not impressive enough for me to spring $5 for the spanish-english. My hands apparently are too shaky and I see it overlaying new images but they only stay for like .25 sec before it tries again so it's always blinking.
