We filed the same night we got my W-2. Expecting between 6 and 7k back between federal and state this year, should be deposited early next week.

Bah, and I don't want to hear about the "interest free loan"... unless you owe a couple grand, you could have just as easily underpaid during the year, collected interest on it, and then paid in April, after receiving 3 more months of interest on it.

I estimated mine and it looks like I have to pay an extra $900 or so. That puts my tab at over $7,000 for the year. With property taxes and sales tax I pay well over $12,000 a year. Taxes suck.

I'm going to owe a lot more than that. I'll file at the last second just like always. Anyone that gets a refund is an idiot. Anyone that gets excited about a refund is a double-idiot. If you're getting a refund you just gave the government an interest-free loan for a year. If you under-withhold and have to pay, you're giving the government back THEIR money and they gave you an interest-free loan of it for 16 months. It doesn't take a genius to figure out which end of that equation you want to be on. But without fail every spring you'll hear all the "financially-challenged" doing the "I got a refund" dance as if they actually did something good.

I can't even file my taxes yet because TurboTax states some CT tax forms aren't final yet.

This subject has been argued to death.
For the majority of people, having the government take an extra $50(or whatever) per week is un-noticeable to them.
So by getting that money the end of the year is a PLUS.

Lets face it, many people do not have the self-control to put away the extra ~$50 every week if it was up to them.
If you can, kudo to you but that doesn't make them "double idiot"

And its not 16 months. Get your math corrected.
Yeah for people who file in April, the first time they do it, it will be 16 months.
But if they keep filing every April...they are getting their money every April so its 12 months..not 16 months.

It's you who needs the math lesson Skippy. It's not from April to April, it's from January to April EVERY year. No matter when you pay, you start paying taxes on earnings as soon as the year starts. If you underwithhold you start giving the govenment less money than they deserve EVERY paycheck starting from January 1st. That money then becomes yours to use until mid April every single tax cycle. Perhaps the reason this subject has been argued to death is because there are still some people too dense to grasp that simple fact.

And if a person spends more than they can afford because they don't understand money, that does make them a double-idiot. This is so simple that even you should be able to understand it. If you overpay and then get a refund you have less money at the end of the year, if you under withhold and then have to pay in April you wind up the year with more money. Which part of that is over your head?

And what you are far too dense to grasp is that we DO IN FACT UNDERSTAND that we are giving the government an interest free loan and we don't give a fvck and still decide we would rather get a large refund instead of having to save up money to pay the IRS in April.

Your math also doesn't take into account the fact that the vast majority of people who expect a refund don't wait until April to file. Most of them file in January or February.

Somebody need to go back to school and learn some math...maybe you're the "double idiot"
Its pretty fvcking simple logic..

I already said that the first year, yeah they have your money for 16 months interest free.
So lets say for 2000, if you count the 16 months from Jan 2000 to April 2001....yeah thats 16 months.
From then on, how do you fvcking figure for another 16 months....are you that dense ??
You already counted Jan 2001 to April 2001 as the extra 4 months the first time around...so how are you going to counted those 4 months again for next year ???

Looks like you're the fvcking "double idiot"...LOL
