I think to say that women aren't as familiar with computers isn't exactly true. I mean, take your average guy, take away his games and sit him in front of a computer. He will do the same thing that women do on the machine. He'll chat up, post of bbses, snatch a few mp3s and change his wallpaper a few times. Do women and men have different tastes? Yup, I learned that in kindergarten, doesn't mean anything. So does playing games=computer power user? Definitely not. I spend my day coding up utilities in any number of programming languages, tweaking my development servers, etc. I haven't touched a game in months. Do guys play more games that girls? Yup, that could be because most games are marketed for men than women. Honestly, does blowing off limbs using a million polygons for the little details and pixel shaders for the blood really sounds all that feminine to you? On top of that, the best web engineer I have ever met is a female. She's damn cute too and she just pwns me. Some of the best software developers I know are female and they all posses "mad 1337 skillz" by any definition of the word. You can say that, most women aren't that comfortable with the machine, but that's true of guys too. Go to the gym and I'll best most of the guys there wouldn't know the difference between make clean and make world. No one expects them too, but to make a blanket statement about women like that isn't true. I think what we're seeing is that guys spend more time on the machine because guys spend more time playing games and crap.
my 2 cents.
