Anyone else notice the odd URL?

http://www.app.com/story/news/crime/jersey-mayhem/2014/08/27/nj-woman-worked-jobs-dies-car/14670233/

I wonder if they just place all Jersey stories in crime/jersey-mayhem, since 90% of them fit that category :D

Actually, I just checked and Jersey Mayhem is a common category on a few news sites....is Mayhem a location?

On houses. You can't purchase a house in NJ for $90k. Most are in the $400k range with a huge tax bill that need to be paid every year.

You can buy a house in NJ for $90k, just not a new house in a nice area. We have poor areas in NJ, and those areas have poor people houses.

I read the woman worked four jobs, but no explanation of what they were. Perhaps she was dental hygienist and worked one day a week for four different dentists? Why is everyone assuming that she was poverty stricken and barely surviving?

At least three of the jobs were at different Dunkin Donuts locations.

We don't all have to work 2, 3, or 4 jobs, but a double husband/spouse income is required these days if you have a family.

Disagree. I know plenty of people with 1 income and supporting a family. Both my brothers. Neither are rich but they're doing OK. I have some friends doing similar.

Now if you insist on living in an expensive place and driving new cars, that's your problem. Plenty of nice places to live around the country that don't cost 300k and no need for a brand new car every 3 years either.

I don't see anything about her life choices or multiple kids causing her struggles.

They do say she was working at multiple Dunkin Donuts

Police said Fernandes worked at several Dunkin Donuts stores in the area and it wasn't unusual for her to park in a public access parking lot in between jobs to get a few hours of sleep. She was scheduled to lend her SUV to a friend two hours after she parked her vehicle in the lot that afternoon, police said.

These days salaries are staying the same, bonuses and raises are removed, but yet cost of living keeps going up. Sadly everyone will eventually be in her situation if things continue at this pace, it's just a question of when and it depends how much buffer you have till you end up in a situation where your job is no longer enough to make ends meet.

Also crime, gangs, drugs, homelessness, violence, etc..

I was talking about homes that a normal person would want to purchase. Not a sh*t hole located in the inner city. You could also say that a cardboard box is adequate and cost next to nothing. Who wants to live in a cardboard box?

I wonder if she got free donuts.

Bullshit. Her life choices put her in that situation. Probably had lots of mouths to feed and did not go to school.

Keep the P&N trolling out of OT. Thank you. -Admin DrPizza

How did you deduce what I said to be "P&N trolling"?

Mayhem is a state of mind common to NJ. It's location is anywhere there are Jersey people, which is everywhere. The greater the concentration of Jerseyites the more likely there is to be Mayhem.

Not $90k, but close enough. Phillipsburg is not a place where you'd feel unsafe.

If I looked at some little towns in South Jersey I'm sure I could find a house for $90k (close enough?), but I grew up in the Phillipsburg area so I went with what i know.
