Welcome to the new America.

Raising a family, buying a house, and going to college are out of reach for most Americans now. We need to work 2, 3 or even 4 jobs so we can meet our most basic needs. :(

maybe if...

- kids stopped leaving for independence at 18, setting themselves up for financial hardship. Graduate, get a stable job, save money while living at home, then you can buy your first place instead of wasting money on rent all those years.

- parents would be parents and let them stay past 18 for the good of their financial future. But feel free to kick out the freeloaders - you've already failed at parenting.

But Obamacare was supposed to fix all problems... that the only thing that mattered.

I know the ATOT high ballers will be in here saying I don't know what I'm talking about. They will probably say this lady didn't have marketable skills. She should have went to college, I make $100k a year and you don't know sh*t, yadda, yadda, yadda...

Says the person that's typing on a computer, using an internet connection, etc....

The problem is that people can't differentiate between needs and wants.

People use to work to get food, shelter and clothing. Now people think they need a lot more, when in fact Mazlow's basic pyramid hasn't changed.

Now I get how trickle down economic work - you don't get one well paying jobs, you get multiple crappy paying jobs!

NOW he gets it,.. 4 decades later!!

Love this picture. It's so perfect for how our government must views us given what we let slide. Lets argue more about which side is dumber rather than what's actually occurring.

Bullshit. Her life choices put her in that situation. Probably had lots of mouths to feed and did not go to school.

And god forbid that she ever realize where her life choices got her and do something about it.

You are such a fucking douchebag. It's a shame you weren't in the car instead.

Wishing death on a member. You know better.

We don't all have to work 2, 3, or 4 jobs, but a double husband/spouse income is required these days if you have a family. Most husbands and wives that do work actually do make $75-$100K easy.

I'll agree about higher education pricing itself out of the market though. This article does a good job at explaining why college prices are basically a sham to pay for mismanagement: http://www.alternet.org/education/how-did-college-education-become-so-ridiculously-expensive

What if it was suicide? Working 4 jobs is rough, and I imagine the needs that required her to work 4 jobs were even more rough. If I was ever gonna commit suicide, a little carbon monoxide and a nap would be the way to go. Just saying.

I would say "this" more than anything else. People are absolutely fucking awful at managing their money - I work at a bank, I've seen it in action lol. People who are basically living paycheck to paycheck still spending all sorts of money on iTunes and Facebook and Redbox and cellular service and eating out all the time.

It's unfortunate that she died, but I highly doubt her needing to work multiple jobs was caused by anything she didn't do to herself.

It's a hard situation to handle. Part of me wants to say "they make stupid decisions, they pay for it. if they don't have skills, they should acquire some." but at the same time... that just won't work for a lot of people. They simply aren't good learners and are really only ever going to be suited for gruntwork. I think there's a lot of people like that, which was fine when the US was a manufacturing nation because the work was just that - repetitive gruntwork. I'm torn - I don't think it should be society's job to coddle those that can't keep up, but at the same time part of me thinks that it'd be for the greater good and peace if we did.

Maybe we find a way to take care of them on the condition they don't have children lol. Or just one, kind of like China's system.

She had good work ethics, i'll give her that. But she should've thought harder about pumping out all those mouths. Now i have to help feed them. Now that's the real tragedy there should be a breeding license.

I read the woman worked four jobs, but no explanation of what they were. Perhaps she was dental hygienist and worked one day a week for four different dentists? Why is everyone assuming that she was poverty stricken and barely surviving?

Funny you talk out of your ass as usual, since not a single article of the many linked about her mentions anything her having a single child, you pompous, egotistical, bigoted asshat.

In fact, if you actually read any of the articles, you'd probably be shocked to find out that she seems to be a better human being than you could possibly hope to be. But nah, you can't take the time to do something other than care about your own trolling now, can you?

The economic and social conditions are getting worse. It is a tragedy.

But at the same time, we can take comfort in the fact that we were the first to send a man on the moon. That we have so many gadgets. That so many people around the world are terrified whether they would be next on our to-bomb list. Yeah baby, we are the boss!

Time for me to go thump my chest

The story is so odd, 4 jobs and a spilled gas can inside the vehicle? Something is not quite right.

If you think that all people need to do in life is work hard in order to succeed, you've probably never met people like this.

There's a problem in our society when the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and no matter how hard the poor work, they just keep making the rich richer and themselves and their quality of life poorer instead.

How the hell is telling someone to go play in traffic wishing death on them? SunnyD insults me twice and you do nothing. I respond and you interpret it how you want. You are bias.

There's a problem in our society when the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and no matter how hard the poor work, they just keep making the rich richer and themselves and their quality of life poorer instead.

At what point does what an average person think about how wealth "should" be distributed matter? The average person is a moron who doesn't know the first thing about economics.

Further the way he uses the word "choose" and "ideal" makes me question how that choice was presented in the first place. It sounds more like someone was given a multiple choice question with the following choices:

A - The rich are 100000x richer than the poor
B - The rich are 1000x richer than the poor
C - The rich are 10x richer than the poor

Which would have a predictable result. That poverty line is pretty questionable as well.

Oh wow - "and the middle class is barely distinguishable from the poor" holy shit this is like hand crafted to appeal to the lowest common denominator's need to feel slighted.

I think more wealth more evenly distributed would be a good thing. However I also think drastic inequality is also more or less inevitable without severe market regulation and intervention. And I think that "propaganda" like this that, in a way, tries to create an "us vs them" mentality is not helping. Yes, the rich folks have a lot of money. But no, you can't just take it from them because you don't like it. If there is a solution to be found (there might not be. a free market is a vicious place.), then I think an important catalyst to it would be the rich and the poor working together, not the poor vilifying the rich and the rich closing themselves off.

Yea cause of all the downtime she has to dwell on such matters while working 4 jobs.

I applaud her drive and effort but keeping gas in a container in an enclosed space is commonly known to be hazardous, just put it in the car's tank, I don't know a single person who rides around with a full gas can in their car.
