If you see a cop and start running away that is enough cause for them to detain you. She was in a public place swearing loudly and began "avoiding" the police. I see nothing wrong.

this wasnt at night. There is not noise restriction during the day. She could not possibly have been any louder than a or construction workers shouting at each other over the sound of banging hammers and power tools, dump trucks or those annoying suvs with there bass thumping. She was not evading anyone she was on her fone actually minding her own business. The officer was trying to illegally detain her. Granted she could have stoped and asked the officer if she was being arrested or detained then went on her way but then again the officer was on a power trip and illegally harassing her.

Wow so clueless....

Was there ever a thread where gigapet WASN'T clueless?

I used the subway extensively in DC for about a week in the mid 90's.

I was very impressed with how clean & panhandler free they were, the Transit Cops looked tough as nails too, I would never dream of messing with them. I saw one cop that could have passed for Charles Bronson's brother.

I felt safer in the subway than I did on the streets.

The sad part is that the Transit Police end up trying to enforce civility with some folks.

different laws in different parts of the country i guess cuz like i said most every new yorker and most NYPD for that matter would be in jail for this. There are an astonishing amount of laws that dont make sense perhaps this is one that needs to be reviewed. If an adult cant handle someone cursing they should seek help.
However what she did was annoying at best. Not deserving of an arrest. A ticket at most. She was in a heated argument with her fiance on the phone...i would think more of you could sympathize with being in a heated argument i guess not. You cannot deny that the cop was on a power trip.

if you bother to read your own link you would see charges were dropped. If we can't curse in public then this country is going down the hill fast. I really hope this lady contacts ACLU or some organization and have the law about cursing declared unconstitutional

sorry if you really think what she did was deserving of anything more than a verbal warning or ticket....then you are a nazi.

She was breaking the law and had been asked to stop by the officer twice. She is a dumbass for not taking him seriously, zero sympathy from me.

The cop was probably just going to ask her to quiet down. But she then tried to get away from the cop to continue what she was doing. Last time...hope you get it...if you evade police (run, walk, crawl away from them while they are speaking to you) they have every right to detain or arrest you.

i said previously she could have stopped but at the same time the officer could be preventing real crimes.

She may have not been breaking the law. She didn't get arrested because she was swearing. She was arrested because she was resisting.

the cop was harassing. bullying. On a power trip. Last I checked there were plenty of robberies, rapes, assaults and murders in maryland to be investigating. I dont know why a women having an argument with someone on a cell is considered a priority in anyones mind. Are the streets now safer? NOPE! Are the courts now more clogged with stupid cases. YUP! Are all tax payers going to end up paying for this? YUP!

great to see justice was served

He was a transit cop. He's not really supposed to deal with anything outside of public transportation.

So cops should avoid a public disturbance and look for "real" crimes? Then people like you will get pissed because a bunch of teenagers are gathering in the street outside your house and being loud at 10:57 pm and the cops are nowhere to be found.

A cop can't avoid the little things just because there MIGHT be bigger things going on.

Edit: These are the same that complain about getting a speeding ticket because the cop should have better things to do like catch a "real" criminal. Then when they don't catch a speeder and the speeder kills someone you complain the cops weren't doing their job.

speaders deserve to get pulled over and ticketed, but how will someone that is disturbing piece by swearing going to harm, kill someone

ok and? Thats the best he could come up with? A women having an argument on her cell phone? Was he short on his monthly quota? How bout we just put army personell down there. They can shoot anyone speaking above a whisper in the head. That way everyone is quiet and noone will be annoyed by cursing or loud phone conversations. The courts wont be clogged with stupid cases and we wont have to pay for all this crap in the form of increased taxes. If they are going to behave like nazis might as well take it to the full extent and not do it half assed.

Um giga.. read the story again..
he asked her to calm down.. she basically said FU...
then when he tried to talk to her she shugged him off..
thats not how you stay outa jail..
he was a cop he asked nicely first and she ignored and blew him off..

he did not abuse his power she wasnt going to get a ticket etc... she basically evaded arrest therefore he put her ass down..
good for him..
