Im baffled.

For some obscure reason, Windows Media Player 8.0 (in Windows XP) refuses to play DivX 5 files. However, if I use Real One or the DivX player, there seems to be no problem.

The error I get is that "No combination of filters could be found to render the stream."

I am guessing WMP believes I dont have the codecs needed to play the failes, installed, when in fact I DO.

Is there any way around this? Any way of reinstalling media player? Uninstalling it? I could of course use REal One or the DivX player to play those files, but I do whant to know why this is happening, any help woud be appreciated. :)

Thanks.

Hvae you tried using classic Windows Media Player? goto Start, run, and type in "mplayer2"

Drag one of your DivX files onto it.

Yep, I tried that, didn't work either. I also tried using other media players, like BS player and Sasami2k. Those two didnt work either and gave me the same errors.

DivX has probably been "disabled" by MS. Applied any WMP security patches lately?? The EULA on the new WMP says that MS, on behalf of RIAA/MPAA, 0wnz your computer and they can install any future upgrades needed to stop piracy without your permission and without telling you.

Here and here for those that want to learn more about it.

The playa that is bundled with the divx 5 codec does not play it either? Real Player is suck, you cannot jump ahead in the movie without waiting 10 minutes to find and buffer the location. Have you tried WMP 6.4? I reverted to that and have not had a problem.
