That's just it, many many people don't want to identify themselves as upper class. Upper class is always a little bit more luxurious and goodie-laden than what they have. People love to be middle class.

According to old wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H...e_in_the_United_States

Roughly 33% are under $32k, 50% are under $50k, and if you get up above $100k you are in the top $15% in America, and on a whole we do a lot better than many other countries. But I ain't got a Ferrari yet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P...e_in_the_United_States

If you look at personal income instead of household it all goes down. 42.72% under $25k. 70.95% under $50k. Make more than $100k? 5.63%

Of course you can also divide up by labor instead of income, workers/employed, capital owners, landowners - but thats a bit outdated and vague.

I didn't even know John Edwards felt that way. Good for him. How do you know that he's not sucking from my tasty knob?

I formed my own opinion on the subject and have no clue about Edwards nor do I care what he thinks. Thanks for playing.

I live a class much lower than my household income would suggest.

Interesting question. I'd probably say upper-middle class, both now living on my own as well as my entire family before I moved out. I'd describe my family and me as well-off, but not wealthy.

Definitely lower class, but I still don't live paycheck to paycheck.

Basically live paycheck to paycheck. Have no house.

So.....yeah. Lower middle at best. Hopefully wife will be an accountant in a couple of years and then it will be much better.

I'm quoted so it really doesn't matter. I never wanted after all these years to actually post that.

Rich to me. :(

When I'm an accountant we can at least be comfortable though. :)

Right now...I have to watch my finances closely.

Here's a clue: If you "identify" with a class based on what your parents have and earn, you're on the fast track to inheriting it, squandering it, and having to start all over. Keep your head on straight and things might work out. That or you're a college/grad/whatever student without experience or a clue in the world.

If you haven't actually yet done shit with yourself to equal your parents' achievements, keep your head down and work. Don't turn out a disappointment because you want to coast on the back what they've done. Otherwise, see above.

Education's important, glad you see it. If you need any help when you get to JMU, please give me a shout. I can at least point you in the right direction with business professors, and I do have a few good friends who did BS/MS Accounting there.

You will, however, owe me a couple of $3 pitchers from Dave's. Yes, the price went up. They're now three dollars. Our server actually asked how old we were when we protested the price hike. Turns out they haven't been $2 in about 3 years.

What has your experience been with dating someone who has attained similar education / income (who intends to continue working post-marriage) versus someone who has not attained such levels / would intend not to continue working post marriage (if you have dated women from both categories)?

I prefer intelligent, attractive women. I don't want a wife that spends my money all day. I want a wife with a career that earns her keep.

qft.

i won't even associate with women who aren't going to school and show ambition and intelligence. I don't want a housewife.

I recently had a similar dilemma... I too don't think I would want to marry a trophy / housewife, i.e., a woman who expects her beauty alone to buy her a pampered, work-less life

I am okay with the trophy wife appearance as long as what fills the space between her ears is equally attractive. I will most likely be the primary bread winner, but our careers will be equally demanding. She, however, has the ability to bring in untold millions through research and development. The best I can hope for is a high yet stable income as a named partner.

I have a named position in a small consulting firm I founded with some law school friends. We are planning to turn it into a full scale firm that represents wealthy families in all facets - real estate, wills and trusts, divorce, civil, criminal - should do well.

Yeah, that's pretty much the business model of most every law firm. Good luck.

I appreciate that, man. :)

Education is very important, when you really apply yourself to maintaining an A average, some classes can make it a full time job.

Last year I had a loaded schedule, and it was all well and good until finals and I had so many projects in such a short time. 0.0

I'll take you to Chili's if you like wings.

25 cent wings and cheap domestic booze on certain days!

Or Dave's..;)

I have my own ideas as a CPA.

And if all else fails I could get some old people to go on TV and talk about how I settled their IRS tax debt for pennies on the dollar!
