Don't expect them to drop anytime soon. MS already said they are keeping inline with Sony, not Nintendo. Gamecube dropped because of poor sales. XBox and PS2 are still selling great so you won't see a price drop on either of them anytime soon.

According to an interview with Robbie Bach (MS VP Entertainment Division), there will be no price drop. Same goes for PS2 judging by info coming from SONY.

That's just like saying Half-Life 2 won't be delayed. They can change their minds very easily.

Yeah, they (at least Sony) pulled this same thing right up until the last price cut. We won't know for sure until it happens or doesn't happen. I'm betting they will drop, or at least the XBox will, because their new bundle is crap and this Nintendo drop WILL hurt them this holiday season whether they like to think so or not.

Of course, but in addition to that, the gamecube info start hitting various channels about a month and a half ago and thus far there is nothing on ps2 or xbox drops, just information on holiday bundles.

I think they will. Why else would they have a price drop to 179? They probably just want to gradually drop the price.

I've never had a console break. Ever.

Then you must never have put a pc cd-rom into a ps1. It broke my system!!! It played some music for a bit then shutdown! :(

Sony never planned a cut, they planned a rebuttal in the event MS lowered the price (which they obviously did). That is why all the advertising materials the following week (after the announcement was made) indicated the new low price for the xbox while it took 4 weeks for SONY to get out the new advertising indicating the ps2 price drop.

No, I never did. I put PC CD-ROMs in my PC. Music CDs worked just fine in my PlayStation, though.

The more I think of it, it would actually suprise me if MS doesn't drop the price. I don't think they can afford to go back to 3rd place.... even though they'll start losing even more money on the console.

I wonder if Sony can drop to $99 and break even. They are supposedly turning a profit now, aren't they?

Not for a while. Afterall ps2 and xbox are worth what they cost. Gamecube was not (still won't be). They are not necessarily direct competitors. PS2 and xbox go for the same audience, whereas gamecube takes up the slack as christmas presents for nieces and your 7 year old's first console, so I don't think there are many buyers that will pick one or the other based on price. PS2 and xbox would have to drop if their respective competitor did.

I sure wish XBOX would drop a bit to $149.99. If the KB Toys lawsuit goes through, that would make the XBOX $104.99.
