New Supreme Court justice sworn in:

Suit against heavily gerrymandered maps filed:

It's been a long spiral downward for my state for the past couple of decades. But I think we're starting to turn around. The last midterm election winning Justice Protasiewicz her seat was a HUGE pivot point.

Wild how we have "conservative" and "liberal" judges in this country. Should be that facts are facts and laws and constitutions say what they say. Probably too much to ask for.
Reason I think we should have an equal number of justices equal number from both sides.

This would start forcing decisions based on facts. With those egos they won't want a bunch of undecided cases.

GOP is being brazen with gerrymandering and abuse of power in a Democrat state. Judges need to put a swift stop to that.

Can't stress enough how big a deal this is - Wisconsin in its current state is essentially not a democracy as it is functionally impossible for Democrats to win a legislative majority. (at one point I think it was at the level where Democrats had to win by about 20 points to get a one seat majority)

Removing those maps and replacing them with sane ones would be a HUGE step in the right direction.

We are in prime dark ages here in FL. Glad to see others climbing out (hopefully).

The FL gov is going apeshit banning stuff. AP Psychology the latest. All that nasty book learnin' with big words talking about Woke stuff. Give Desantis credit, may he fucking choke on it--he doesn't just talk. The rest of you might get off lucky that Trump is whooping his ass. Dude is a fascist and he has a pet government with their foot on the pedal. I hope there is a mass walkout of teachers, which is hard to say because I have one kid still in school here. But this bullshit needs to stop.

The ONLY reason Wisconsin isn't beating you is because we have a democrat for a governor who does what he can to keep the GOP nutjob legislature in check. We only have a D governor becuase that vote is state-wide totals and cities like Milwaukee, Madison etc came out in droves last election as we knew were had no chance at the legislature due to the horrible maps we have to overcome. Jeebus willing this new lawsuit, coupled with the new justice will fix things.

It sounds like you don't believe there is objective truth, that the best solution if for subjectivity to cancel itself with both sides. Only those who lean liberal are interested in facts.

Those ideals are based on an age old American delusion that humans are better than we truly are.
Sooner or later, humanity catches up with us.

Impartiality is for the ignorant.
In the age of information, and being able to instantly communicate to anyone on the planet... there is no where to hide from partisanship. From the worst aspects of human nature dialed up to 11 and being spread like the plague to every corner of the earth.

You are either with us, or against us. Is that not so?

Wahhh, they are already squealing.

Man is she going to be mad when she finds out that Republicans rigged the electoral system in Wisconsin so they could never lose.

Hah, except she's actually the one who personally just re-rigged it again, establishing that the Wisconsin Supreme Court had the authority to override the Governor to reestablish super-gerrymandered districts desired by the Republicons (including the non-continuous districts).

(something or other about every accusation...)

Why Republicans Could Impeach a Liberal Judge Before She’s Heard a Case

The push, just five weeks after Justice Janet Protasiewicz joined the court and before she has heard a single case, serves as a last-ditch effort to stop the new 4-to-3 liberal majority from throwing out Republican-drawn state legislative maps and legalizing abortion in Wisconsin.

Republicans would control all levers of the impeachment process.
They hold a 29-seat majority in the State Assembly, where a majority is required to impeach state officials, and a two-thirds majority in the State Senate, the precise number of votes needed to convict and remove someone impeached by the Assembly.

Jesus Christ at the power grab by the Repubs.
And the sheepie voters will probably forget in the next election cycle :(

I dont have time to read the article at the moment, but what are they using as the reason for impeachment? Don't they have to have a legal reason of some kind?

Not recusing herself from redistricting issues based on statements she made during the campaign.

Which of course is:

1) Not one of the grounds for impeachment listed in the Wisconsin Constitution.
2) A violation of the 1st amendment.
3) Something Republican justices on the same court have done routinely.

If they succeed in blocking her from ruling on the case there is no longer any viable path forward in Wisconsin for democracy absent some sort of federal intervention. The most likely path for that would be that the federal courts would rule this as a violation of her 1st amendment rights as they have previously held in similar situations. Then again, it's Calvinball time at SCOTUS so who knows.

It gets worse. From what I understand, if the assembly passes their impeachment with a simple majority, she is removed from her duties immediately. If she is impeached by the senate, a replacement is appointed by the governor.

So naturally the plan will be for the assembly to pass their simple majority, and for the senate to not take up the impeachment proceedings, ensuring 3-3 split between conservatives and liberal justices.

Democracy is pretty much dead in WI outside of statewide elections, and Republicans are doing what they can on that front as well.

The RNC donors probably paid her off. Not sure why the DNC donors don't start doing the same thing where they can. Just kidding. If someone paid a Republican to switch sides it would be the biggest issue in the world for at least 4 years. We'd never hear the end of it.
