Sale this week on Sprint PCS Wireless Web Kit. I picked up one for my Sanyo 6000 at $39.99, a couple weeks ago they were selling this for around $60 and prior that, $99.

They go for a lot more on fleabay [Justincase and other resellers].

Wireless web kits let you download ringers, etc and use your PCS phone as a modem connected to your laptop or Palm device. Comes with cable, null modem adaptor and software. Be sure to get Version 2.0 of the kit for faster speeds.

If you're lucky and get a nice sales rep you might be able to use the "$5 off any phone accessory" coupon (in-store) and get it for $35!

Hmmm... where can we find that coupon? Sounds like a good deal. But sheesh... that means back to 56k speeds...

sorry it was a $5 off accessory coupon. It's heavily promoted in the Sprint B&M store and there are plenty of brochures. YMMV

You can also download ringers and pictures using the Data cable. I just found a Simpsons MIDI that sounds great on the Sanyo 6000. Unfortunately it is a serial cable so it takes about 40 secs.

I do not see this connection kit. I have the Sanyo 6000 and the only connection kits I see are the ones with the phone:

Dual-Slot Desktop Charger $79.99
- Allows simultaneous charging of phone and second battery
Slot allows data connectivity while charging.

and

Sprint PCS Wireless Web Connection Kit $59.99
- Contains all hardware and software necessary to use your Sprint PCS Phone as a wireless modem
- Contains Multi-Media software which enables you to download images and midi music to your handset.

its that second one you mentioned. i havent seen that price at any of our sprint stores so it doesnt seem to be national. I guess he should put a YMMV in the title.

Anyway, i just tried out my connection kit ($60) with my phone and the laptop and it worked in XP fine. But boy is it slow. 14.4... yow.

when using as a modem, will it use up your regular airtime or do you have to purchase separate airtime for "data" like voicestream (istream)?

If you sign up for the basic "Wireless web" service, they charge you $5/mo... and the time you use is counted as normal airtime... (i think).

They also appear to have a special now... you get 3 month free when you sign up for the Wireless web service. Ask the CSR when adding the service.

It's this one:

Sprint PCS Wireless Web Connection Kit $59.99
- Contains all hardware and software necessary to use your Sprint PCS Phone as a wireless modem
- Contains Multi-Media software which enables you to download images and midi music to your handset.

Of course, your mileage may vary, I got mine in Northern Calif.

Actually you don't need wireless web option to use the connection kit. It will work with regular plans and just eats up the minutes. Great for people with unlimited nights and weekends / 3000 nights & weekends.

Wireless web 'the $5 option' is just for surfing using your cell phone. Kind of misleading to call it the same thing but...

rk0 are you sure? I remember reading about it, and all the how-to's said to add that option. I hope you are right, i have never tried it.
I am trying to find that link that explained how to set it up using your local isp...

oops, you are right

It used to be separate back last year but I guess they changed it and made it part of wireless web. But it is only $5 to add after the free trial.

Thanks for thinking of me RK0, and for the heads up.

It appears though that many of these have sold for around $30.00 on Ebay.

WARNING: Be careful when using the serial cable to download ringers, etc. I just busted my phone somehow that prevents it from powering up. I didn't disconnect it during the download but somehow it screwed up.

Kudos to Sanyo for storing their software firmware with the user flash download area in the phone.

Do you think there is a way to make your own data cable? I have an old broken car charger.. you think I can just rig the end that goes into the phone into a DB9 or something?
