Wire Sleeving

Hey guys, im gonna start to clean up the wires in my case and i wanted to know which size of that flexo pet wire sleeving id need for the PSU cables (reg molex) Im getting UV and i wanted to knoe if 3/8' would work, or if 1/4" would be better. Also, would heatshrink or cable ties work better for the ends? Also, i have 4 12" UV CCs and i wanted to know if there was a controller somewhere thatll let me turn them on anf off (like a fan controller that supports 4 lights) if you know of anything, please let me know, thanks!

For the regular (molex connection) wires coming from the PSU, the 1/4" sleeving is good. For fans, use the 1/8" sleeving (thinner wires and usually less of them). Heatshrink tubing works best on the ends. Practice on some spare 'Y' connectors (power) to get used to sleeving before you start. Also, get the male and female pin removal tool before you start. A very small screwdriver works really well for the floppy and fan connections (mobo connections for fans) and will allow you to reset the connection once you pull it (so that is snaps in place again). Get a heatgun, unless you have a good hair dryer (avoid matches/lighters since you risk burning the stuff) to use.

Check to see if the flexo sleeving is the same as other sleeving (is that the brand?)... I get mine from frozencpu.com along with the tools to do the job. I get my heatshrink tubing from an electronics superstore that has much better pricing... For the tubing, get the 1/2" that reduces to 1/4" along with some electrical tape so that you can actually get the sleeving and tubing over the ends. Once you start doing it, you'll figure out all the little tricks to make it easier...

On my wire looms I got some 1/2" loom for the PSU to Mobo power connection, then I got 3/8" for the rest.

Ahh...a post on a topic I am currently working on.

Just got 2 UV sleeving kits and am starting to sleeve my wires.
Here's what I bought UV SENSITIVE CABLE SLEEVING KIT
BTW- the blue isn't as UV reactive as some other colors.

So far I have done a few fans and the 1/8" works fine for them. In fact, my case uses paired 80mm fans front and back, so I sleeved both fans together. The only trouble I had was a little fraying. (Thanks for the link mech 🙂)

I googled quite a few sleeving guides and some of them didn't look all that great cause they were using sleeve that was too large.

Do your CCFL's not have a switch?
Mine has one, but I need to get a diferent type so I can mount it on a 3.5" blank. The one I have now requires a 13/16" hole. 🙁

yeah, they have switches, but id like them a little more accessable so i dont have to open the side to get to them

I just replaced my switch with this.

It only requires a 1/4" mounting hole. It has exactly the same specs as the one that came with my UV CCFL kit.

BTW- the sleeving kits I bought don't have nearly enough heatshrink tubing. I just ordered some more.
Buying separate is probably a better idea.

do you think its possible to wire it in a way that i could hook that switch up to two internters, so i can turn off all 4 lights at the same time. And also, could list the ideal amounts of each type of cable and heatshrink you think one would need to properly wrap all wires? Im trying ot get an idea cause i think im gonna buy them individually.

hmmm.... the only way you'll know for sure about the switch is to test your ccfl's with a multimeter at the switch.
It is a 10A switch and will probably handle it, but I don't have the expertise to answer your question. The switch has solder connectors so it was kind fun to install 😉 I'm pretty inept with a soldering iron, but I am stubborn. The switch is pretty small, heck you could probably fit about 8 of 'em on a 3.5" cover.

It will be a little while before I finish sleeving. I am doing it a little at a time after work and my computer has 6 case fans. After sleeving all my fans and my ccfl wires I only have 3" left of the small heatshrink for the 1/8" sleeve and I still have quite a few wires left to do with that size.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I am sure somebody else here on the board has a good estimate for you though.

At this point, you just need to practice at it. Make sure you have the pin removal tools (for the molex as well as other mayor pins, sans the fans and floppy) or you will make it more difficult on yourself. I'm at the point that I just get the 1/8" and 1/4" sleeving as needed. I never did bother with a kit, especially since it includes sizes I won't be using. Besides, I find that most kits don't have everything you really need, or have stuff you'll never use.

Well yeah....
I just placed an order from Jab-Tech.
I couldn't remove my ATX connector using staples or my molex tool so I ordered a tool here along with UV connectorz.
On the check-out page a paypal option showed up.
I can't necessarily give them a recomendation yet but I checked out resellerratings.com before I ordered.

🙂

Frozencpu accepts money order/certified check/cashier's check for payment, so you don't need to jerk around with paypal. There is an additional charge going that way, but if you don't have access to a credit card, it's a good alternative.

I ordered from frozen CPU ($100 total!) and used paypal, but there was no extra charge, and i got 2 day shipping for like5 bucks! I hope the kit works well

I use ground from frozencpu since that is the same as 2 day for me. Being in a bordering state has it's advantages...
