Waterloo or Dubuque? I couldn't remember.

I lived in Dubuque for over 5 years. That's a crazy place to live in the winter. They have some of the steepest/longest hills in the midwest.

Yeah, I know that's bad - but half of the ones last year were on fair weather days. I just have no sympathy for people that take "turn 2" here like they are in an open-wheel racer.

DBQ FTW! the two colleges have the two worst streets. "turn 2" is off Clarke.

That's actually a REALLY good Idea - I should see if I can scrounge one up and just do it for a week. We've had some doozies.

One guy was all jacked up one night and flies down the street, jumps the curb in his blazer (these curbs are 16" high, and thats a conservative estimate) and somehow jumps it and starts rolling up to my neighbors porch and luckily the truck stops. My roomate goes over to see if he's allright (and call the cops) and he stumbles out and he says "uh.. must have lost my brakes.." riight buddy.

Another guy had a mini truck all jacked up with a lift kit and took the turn at about 45-50 is my guess (the street is 25) and he flips it and rolls and takes out a sign and a fence on the other side. It's a busy street, and if a car would have been parked there.. oh man, that would have been bad.

My wife used to live in some dorms off of Loras Blvd (14th street). That street is crazy with snow on it. I had to drive University downtown every day for work down at HBOC off of Locust. That is a very steep and long street as well. I've seen those streets just completely shut down more than a few times.

6) Your 350Z/BMW 330i/Mustang/Ect with the low profile summer tires work great...in the summer.

My 'rents live in the upper midwest. My dad bought the Mustang with the 5.0. Absolutely, hands down, with a doubt the worst car ever for winter driving. Even with snow tires its like pushing a brick around an ice rink.

Yup - that street hasn't changed one bit. Literally, like no maintence on the road at all so I avoid it like the plague. I live like 5 blocks away from work (HBOC-wow, small world) so I usually park and walk up to avoid those streets they plow dead last.

8) Before you get into traffic test your brakes so you have some remote idea of what is going to happen when you push on that big square pedal on the floor.

YES! test your ABS to feel how sensitive it is. when it kicks in, you need 2-3x normal distance to stop. I almost got into an accident with that.

I gotta do that. Come down here, we can make a day of it.

I drive so much, I don't even care anymore.
As far as I'm concerned everyone on the road sucks, including me.

Heh, I bought my Mustang specifically for winter driving :p
Of course, the 4 cyl is considerably lighter than the 5.0, plus the car is lighter overall and has skinnier tires. Not to mention, there was almost zero HP / torque, so it was harder to lose it in crappy weather.
Mine was great in the snow. Just toss a couple bags o' sand in the back during winter, and you were all set till spring.

Subaru Impreza + AWD + Snow Tires = Fun plowing through the roads at 2am and doing some donuts in a huge parking lot :)

Granted I luckily haven't been in any total ice sliding down a hill situations, but I find my 1995 Corolla to be very predictable in slippery conditions. I can pretty much slide straight around a corner in it and come out pointed exactly where I want to go on the other side.

Oh I should add that I don't have winter tires, but they are almost brand new (2,500 miles or so) all-seasons so they have a whole lot of tread left.

I miss my explorer every times it snows. I got tires last month solely based on how they handle in the snow. I'll never understand the stupid fers with bmws or benzs who use summer tires on them. I almost got hit by both last year, as I watched them do 360's right in front of me. It snows here you stupid Fers!!!:disgust:

You're an asshole when driving in normal conditions and tailgating. Now you are a dangerous asshole. Keep your distance and plan to break much sooner than you normally would.

2) If you have a 4WD vehicle and you sit in a parking lot spinning your tires because you can't find the freaking 4WD button/switch/dial/lever please for the love of God take the thing back to the dealer, give them the keys, and tell them you are too stupid to own this vehicle.

3) If you have a light pickup truck with an ass end that slides around all over the place in the winter please spend $15 and throw 300+ pounds of sandbags in the back end you cheap bastard.

4) If you are trying to take off from a stop and your tires start spinning out, press the accellerator even harder. It helps. Really.

5) Your wallowing land barge also known as a Suburban does not corner on rails when making turns in the snow. Don't turn in front of me without slowing down enough becuase you are an impatient piece of sh!t. When you do that bad things happen...like putting the back end of your 6000 pound sled up over the curb and into some guys yard. Go you!

6) Your 350Z/BMW 330i/Mustang/Ect with the low profile summer tires work great...in the summer.

and finally..

7) When you cut me off because you are such a lazy bastard that you only took enough time to wipe away a porthole size clear spot in your windshield, don't look at me like I'm the asshole. Please for the sake of anyone that has the unfortunate luck of driving anywhere within 100 feet of you, take 30 seconds out of your miserable life and scrape the snow off your rear window and your side view mirrors.

Another rant,people with Bald tires!
Heck its winter time, buy some Snow tires.

LOL welcome to the first few snow storms,of the season.

The ground is not frozen yet,and this lets the snow slightly melt,as it falls,
making the roads even more slippery;than like in mid January.

It seems we all need to relearn to winter drive again, every year.

Last year my "plow truck's" 4 wheel drive stopped working,so i bought
600 pounds of sand bags and put in the back of the truck,
worked great,LOL just kept it in low range 2 wheel drive all winter.

What really pisses me off when the roads just have snow on them, no ice, and people go like 25 in a 55

Whats worse then that is when its snowing, lightly, but its to warm for it to accumulate on the asphalt...but everone is going 30 in a 50 anyway.
