Windows XP Who here is going to buy it?

Can the microsoft authorized activation be turned off? I thought not. Though I suppose you can't really call that a feature.

I was a little sickened a first...but keeping in mind it's beta...

I'd probably buy XP Pro if I didn't have to call microsoft to activate it.

I don't like the new control panel layout...but I could live with that. And I prefer WMP6 to 7...but that's not a big deal, I use Winamp for MP3s, and I don't play much other &quot;media&quot;...

Assuming that 15MB extra is just because it's beta, then the new skinnable interface doesn't use much system resources. WindowBlinds and LiteStep certainly use more than 15MB...I don't really care if my OS is colourful or not, but hey if it doesn't cost anything...why not? I HATE the new startmenu, but that's easy to set back. Other than that while I don't like the new look it's really no different than the old windows just with different colours. All the buttons, menus and things are all in the same place. I'm sure that a skin will come out eventaully that I like better than the regular one...

But if I have to call MS to activate XP for me every time I change a motherboard or something, well piss on that...

I certainly will not install a new operating system that must &quot;phone home&quot; every time it is installed, and which must be &quot;rented&quot; on a yearly basis.

I already run Linux on 2 of my machines, it wouldn't be that hard to put it on the primary machine, too...

I'll stay with win2000, for now. I just started running Linux too, It's time to ween myself off of M$. -john
