Yup...add the cheapest hardware item you can find. Maybe a cable or thumb screw.

Newegg needs to sell OEM software with a new system. TheOEM system builder agreement defines that as a harddrive. Order a new hardrrive and XP and everyone is legal. Oh, and microsoft preferes you install the OS on that new hardrive. Whatever.

Yep....AFAIK the only way around it is to slipstream it into the installation and use a keygen that's floating around...but we wont go into details here. :D

There are a bunch of links in the software forum that have this download at great speeds. I got mine at 175 kb/s.

Speaking of slipstreaming, does NE1 have any links on how to slipstream your personal copy of XP with SP1?

Here it is from the OEM system builders site verbatum.

For all desk top operating systems:

System Builders may distribute each Desktop Operating System Software Unit with either a fully assembled computer system or non-peripheral computer hardware component only. A fully assembled computer system consists of at least a central processing unit, a motherboard, a hard drive, a power supply, and a case.

How does microsoft know who is using the devils own corp version if they already changed the fckgw key to something else?

As far as I know, the FCKGW code is the only one that won't let you install SP1 (that is if you haven't changed the key). For how MS is going to bust your ass if you DO change your key, read here:

I'm wondering if it's worth the download anyway -- what's in SP1 that I need so much?
