Hmm.. I'm still pondering on if I should trade mine in...

Cause I don't know if all my hardware would support it... Heh...

I'll just get someone else to buy me longhorn when it comes out :)

Well, I finally got my CD at 4:00 PM this afternoon. Reading the enclosed instructions says
That this CD "may" be copy protected. This bothers me as I had to reinstall 32XP about six
times due to a conflict between SP2 and SBC software. The only thing I notice is, it says "MAY"
be copy protected. I normally copy any thing like an operating system for my own protection.
Has anybody here tried to copy this CD before using?

Interesting, mine arrived today but I've yet to pick it up. However, I don't see how MS could use any additional copy protection past what they already use for XP32(e.g. technical protection through Windows Activation). They've never been ones for physical protection, and I don't see what good it would do them here.

well I guess I will make one back up copy if I can tomorrow before installing. By the way I
previously asked about memory. I have 512 (256+256)DDR Crucial. To your knowledge is this
enough? I have only one remaining slot therefore could I put a 512 in the
remaining slot without problem?

I don't know about mixing one 512 with two 256's.

As far as gaming goes, the "standard" is 1GB, and it's going to ratchet up to 2GB by the end of the year, so I would consider 512MB to be low. And if you have 3 DIMM slots, it's obviously not a dual-channel board, so you should be just fine adding a 512MB stick.

Yay! Mine turned up this morning - it was shipped on the 19th and here it is in the UK on the 22nd... Not bad. It's just a shame I'm not actually gonna install it for a while, or at least until some of the drivers/anti-virus apps/firewalls I like are available in a 64bit version.

How are people finding it so far?

My copy was waiting for me in the office today. Has everybody been waiting this long? I totally forgot I had ordered it! Probably won't install it for a while though, or will just install to another hard drive to see how it's working.

A lot of us have been running the trial version for some time now; read the thread and there's plenty of commentary on performance. You're also welcome to ask any questions you may have.:)

Everyone has been waiting since April.

I just looked at Creative Lab's site and found that the drivers for the internal devices (means the sound cards, but CL is listing them in the "Internal" category) have been released. From what I saw in the Creative forums, they said that final editions of drivers would be posted on the main site, and so they have. So I guess those of us with Soundblaster Cards and Radeon 9500 and up video cards are now set from all I can tell. Now all I need to do is make sure I can find x64 drivers for my dvd playing software, burning software, RAID controller, and ethernet/wireless.

Well it was a long wait, but I finally got my copy. Did a preliminary install on a single HD without a hitch. (Running a 3200+ dtr mobile on a DFI Lanparty UT nv3 250gb.) Finding the nv3 sata raid drivers to use on an F6 floppy was a real challenge, but I finally pulled it off and reinstalled the OS on a striped (Raid0) array. So far all works great. Even found the xp64 drivers for my Canon i9900.

I've been using XP x64 for a few weeks, and my first impressions are favorable. Unfortunately, x64 is not going to be the greatest thing for digital photographers with Photoshop CS2 and lots of RAM until the color management hardware folks get around to releasing compatible drivers. When I wrote to Gretag Macbeth about drivers for my Eye One Display 2 over a week ago, they were "working on drivers for XP 64 bit, but have not had any updates lately." They were supposed to write back to me later after finding out from the developers the status of these drivers, but I haven't heard anything yet.

In conclusion, unless GMB gets on the ball really soon now, I will be going back to XP32 in the next week. There I will remain until Vista comes out next summer, at which point I'll reassess the 64 bit driver situation. :(

I did the 32 to 64 upgrade on the Microsoft site, using my Paypal/Mastercard..

I noticed in my Paypal account that my transactions changed from Pending to Expired...
Why does it take the authorization so long to complete the order?

*Edit*
Unless like my first copy, I had a $12 charge to my account that was in "Pending (check card holds).. and then when microsoft shipped my order, the $12 charge never got charged...

Is microsoft not charging the $12?
