I installed XP fresh last month, and installed SP2. The computer will randomly reboot and when it comes back on I get a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" I checked my settings to make sure reboot on BSOD wasn't turned on.

The error message just has some error signature with a buncha numbers that make no sense to me. Since installing XP, I have put on a few games, latest drivers for all my hardware. And a couple utilties, Powerdesk & Astonshell.

here is my setup

Windows XP Pro with Sp2
Athlon 2500+
Gigabyte NF2 Ultra 400+
Corsair XMS Pro memory
SB Audigy 2
ATI Raedon 9800 pro
Hauppauge TV card (old one)

I was having crazy amounts of BSOD's, so I reinstalled XP clean, I no longer get BSOD's, but now I get the "serious error" at least twice a day, which I don't remember getting once on my old install.

I have a screen shot of the error if anyone thinks looking at it they could help me.

thanks

Well, it usually askes you to report the error to MS so I would do that. Usually when you do that it'll bring up a page with more info about the problem. Also, are you overclocking? Proper cooling? Just some things to check...

no overclocking of anything, I have decent cooling. a couple of 80mm case fans, cpu fan is nothing special, Coolermaster X-Dreamer.

it could be a bad peice of hardware, but trouble shooting that could take forever. I might try the report error to MS to see what happens. But I'm sure this is a problem only I've had :)

Update all your drivers for ALL your hardware. Do ALL Windows updates. If you still have the problem, send me the minidumps found in c:\windows\minidumps, and run MPS Reports and send me the resulting computername.cab file. See details in my .sig.

I jsut went through something similar. PLEASE check your HDD. Go through a full surface scan with utilities from the manufacturer. My system finally crashed and it took me a week to fully recover from it.
