That's what I want to know. I was thinking of doing a reformat, and if Vista works good, I'll put that on the computer instead of XP. The apps probably won't be too big of a deal, I'm just wondering about Battlefield 2 and Steam/HL2.

Nice, thanks for the link. Well I suppose it'll be Vista then.

Vista is slow as hell. I wouldn't put in on any PC you actually intend on using.

Drivers (availability), yes. (I'll be screwed if I want to keep my HDTV tuner and use it in Vista x64, same as XP x64). Software, probably not anything major.

Think I'll try this out, need a format anyway. I don't play games (occassionally SimCity 4 though) and The GIMP is the most resource intensive program I use. Do you guys think it will work okay on this system?

I downloaded the torrent a week or so ago. There are lots of improvements but I think it's mostly a token download now just to see where they're at.

You guys do realize there are already torrents out, right? The CPP version is nothing more than the Beta 2 that was released to testers a couple of weeks ago, so there are already torrents out of that image. All you need from MS is your key.

Argh I overlooked that. I did a quick Google search and saw this, maybe that'll work?

I got mine from TB but it's 0 day and not up anymore. I've had it for a couple weeks if not longer now that I think about it.

Odd but there doesn't seem to be anyting at TPB so you might want to just use isohunt since there are plenty of seeds from links there.

one thing i cant figure out is why MS hasnt offered "game mode" you know how you have safe mode? Well, why not have another mode that is strictly for gaming. Install your ****** under normal mode, reboot into game mode with only networking, sound, and good video ability. no (GUI: explorer) just have a simple menu that displays all your installed games, and choose one. no antivirus, antisspyware, IE, NOTHING...just the bare basics for running a game...i think it would improve performance a LOT...just a theory though...maybe they tried it and it had no effect?

if you want to multitaask go back into normal mode...

keep in mind, this idea is STRICLY for gaming...you cant add mods under this mode, cant download updates via the venders website (unless it is done in game) no IMs (except in game) maybe the only other apps allowed would be VoIP...i cant think of any other apps that would need to run...

ive been working on this idea for a while...ive been researching some software and am about to take a programming course + OS dev course (intro) ...ive been wanting to do it myself for years now...i wish someone would do it...oh well...maybe i will be the first and people will think i am cool :D ohhh yah lol
