WMP 8 was the only CD burning utility that ever made a coaster and I never used it again. I'm not touching that beta.

I hope it plays some of the .avi files I have encoded with an old Microsoft codec that doesn't work in WMP 8 or at all on XP.

Is it me, or does the codec they used on the Halo video not that good. It was 31MB for less than 3 minutes worth of video; it did however look good. All things considered though, how would Divx or even MPEG1/2 compare? At 31MB, I think it's slightly bloated; can someone prove me wrong?

Man, I'm kinda digging this Beta. I like the little pop-ups you get when songs change; sure you probably know most of your songs, but not always. And the taskbar band is much nicer than the one I was using with Winamp. I think I might have to use this for asfs and maybe mp3s. 6.4 will always be used for mpegs and avis, though.

is it still slower than sh!t like wmp 7 is? did they make creating playlists easy like winamp 2.x (double-click in explorer window)? my two main concerns.

Wow, I really like it. I used WMP8 to organize all of my MP3s, but I like this MUCH better :) Nicer interface, too :) You can also overlap the songs so they sound like one continuous mix :)

Wasn't bad, but I still prefer Winamp. WMP9 at the default settings was taking up 20% CPU usage (on a Dual Xeon 933) and 25mb of memory - winamp is taking up 1% and 7mb, with the same 30 song playlist.

I really like the feature that both Winamp3 and WMP9 have of being able to queue up a song right from windows... just right click and queue it up and it adds it to the playlist :)

FSCK Microsoft! I should have known better than to install this thing....but I didn't. I hoped it would display the correct bitrate for VBR encoded mp3s.....it doesn't. And now the damn thing has hijacked my system.....it will no longer allow me to associate my AVI files with Zoom Player....it says that Zoom is the application that is set to play the AVI files....but WMP9 always pops up!! HOW DO I UNISTALL THIS POS?

That's the real beauty of WinAmp (pre 3.0 that is). You can actually listen to music and work with your PC without any performance or resource problems. A player doesn't need animations, superior skinning and thus 20% of the CPU in order to play audio.

Didn't "Enqueue in Winamp" do that fine for you prior to Winamp3? I've been doing that for years with that option, with Winamp 2.8 and below.

yup.. ms was a little behind in the times on that one.

i like winamp 2.8 better than winamp3. winamp3 takes 8 seconds to play a song from when i click to when it plays. can you believe that? :Q that's almost how long it takes for photoshop to open. compare that to 4.5 seconds by media player 9.

just uninstalled 3 and installed 2.81. 0.5 seconds baby. w00t! i dunno what they did to winamp3... maybe it's because it's the full version (i have "lite" for 2.81).

So what is the big deal with this mini bar? I just put winamp in windowshade mode and always-on-top mode and it looks better and has more functionality.

Check out a screenshot.

I looked at MS' screenshots, and the winamp 'bar' is much better.

it covers up stuff. i'd rather having somehting docked onto the taskbar than hanging over stuff i might want to see.

yeah, what gopunk said. I used to do that but there are times when I find it annoying.

Also minibar has a neat little pop up window or video window.

I can understand that if you have a 14" monitor or something, but if you run at a normal res (I like 1280), its never covers anything up. In fact, the mini bar is just taking up valuable taskbar space. If you want it to have the same functionality as winamp, it'd take half the bar. Winamp is great becase you just have to focus it and you can adjust volume and scroll songs with mouse wheel.

I dunno, it seems MS copied a old idea and now people are acting as if its the best thing since sliced bread.

:| :| :| I HATE THIS ONE :| :| :|

After installing it, my XP pro goes into BSOD each time immediately after reboot :| serves me right for being a retard and installing a beta...

I tried to remove it by using the system restore feature...but guess wut? I turned it off thinking I can use the HDD space for something else...oh well! Time for a fresh install, can I use the same key to install/register XP or do I need to call M$ to get a new key? Yes...it's a legal copy.

grr!

seems pretty obvious to me that it was covering up the title bar in your screenshot. i'ts not even that it gets in the way of something functional, it's just htat it's over something... period. i'ts just distracting imo. btw what functionality is this minibar missing? you can change the volume...and dunno, about the task bar space thing. it depends on your task bar i suppose. mine is vertical, and about a tenth of the screen width (dual monitors), so i have plenty of space.

i agree though, the winamp bar is nice in its own right.

yeah... its not that it covers up anything REAL important, it just covers either the title of the wepage at the top or the status if you put it at the bottom

I DO wish that it had the time of the song and the title, its nice that it pops up at the beginning but thats one thing I like better about Winamp

Ok...I know the beta just came out, but does anybody have any idea on when the final is going to be released? I'm not real kean on beta stuff, although most of microsoft's stuff could probably be labelled beta.
