Windows 8 internet slow

Alright guys I'm a bit at a loss here. I installed Windows 8 Pro onto one of my laptops the other day and the internet has been dog slow. As in even google will take a while to load, and after LOTS of searching on the internet, I am not the only one with this problem. A simple google search of "windows 8 internet slow" will yield results full of identical issues to mine.

I have flushed the DNS

Run gpedit.msc and and set the packet scheduler from 80% to 0

Cleared all temp files, installed as many patches as I can (slow internet and all)

And the drivers come back as up to date

It is NOT my router. I repeat NOT my router. I have 3 other machines, 4 iPads, 3 smartphones, gaming systems etc. and they all work just fine, it is just this machine and only since I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro. This was a clean install and I have wiped and reinstalled twice in the last 3 days in hopes of maybe that resolving the issue. It hasn't. If all else fails I will just go back to Windows 7.

Any ideas?

Yeah, what I meant was I haven't downloaded one. I don't even run one on my Win 7 desktop. I'll try out a different channel and report back.
 
Ethernet wasn't detecting being connected so either I have a bad Ethernet port (doubtful since it was working earlier) or windows is being stupid. I need this laptop to work so I think what I am going to end up doing is just wiping and going back down to Windows 7 pro, and then maybe try moving onto Windows 8.1 later. But for now I just need something stable.
 
Installed Windows 7 pro and everything is working perfectly. Now I can finally enjoyed my new SSD. Thanks for all of the help everyone. Think I'll just keep Windows 8 off this machine for the time being.

-though it is using Vmware vmnet network drivers for Win8


PS: Last I check my download speed was a mere 21 download
Impressed Comcast upgraded it to near 30 Mb/s without telling me 🙂

PS2: well my monthly bill has gone up $2.00 since then
but that's ok for an extra 8 Mb/s

ie: at least I get something in return for their usual
"let's raise prices slowly so they don't notice" scam

Wow, and I thought we have poor internet connection in Dubai!! that's so slow man...

I thought the average user in the USA has like 100 MBPS down / 30 MBPS up...

I pay $190 USD for my package which includes Cable TV (sports package/Russian Package/Free to Air channels) + Landline Telephone + 50 MBPS Down / 10 MBPS up :

Sounds like a driver issue to me, but due to you giving no info about the machine in question and the fact that you have already stepped down to Windows 7 it doesn't matter.

lol. I wish. That screenshot is better than what I get for $55 a month on roadrunner broadband.
 
There are so many things wrong...

First, why install Windows 8? Windows 8.1 is a free update. Also your Ethernet wasn't working because you needed to install drivers for it. Testing your internet speed over Wi-Fi is not reliable at all.

You did not say what ethernet you have ie is it Intel or Realtek etc?..I would of got latest Win8 drivers direct from the manufacturer website in question(sometimes an older driver is more stable),also you could of downloaded a Win8.1 Update 1 ISO and done a clean install with that (only need a generic Win8.1 install key then use your legit Win8 key for activation after install,plenty of places on the web show you how).

Regardless sounds like a driver issue to me.

I would venture a guess that the crap bottom-of-the-barrel WiFi cards that PC makers seem to fond of is a likely source of slowness.

I can guarantee you that it's not an OS issue. When dealing with WiFi, it's often hardware.
 
The laptop in question is an HP Touchsmart TX2. The wireless is broadcom and ethernet is realtek. I assure you all the appropriate drivers were installed, and they all came back as up to date. Went with Windows 8 because I already had that burned to a disk and figured it was good enough to get me going anyway. Went back down to Windows 7 because I didn't have time to troubleshoot and needed a laptop up and running ASAP. When I have more time I will try out 8.1 on here.

Windows has a habit of saying drivers are up to date,however I can normally find newer drivers,always best to install drivers yourself IMHO.

Same thing happened with my USB Ralink based Wireless dongle ,Windows stated drivers up to date ,but I went to manufacturers website and bingo newer official drivers available then what Windows stated,they installed and worked fine.

I don't doubt that. We saw this especially when 8 (and it's predecessors) were first released. I was mainly focusing on the statement:

your Ethernet wasn't working because you needed to install drivers for it

In hindsight, was my post worth the effort? Probably not. The OP has gone back to 7 and is happy. But as always, it would be nice to find a solution to the issue rather than a workaround or a failback.

My point was not at you but trying to state never rely on Windows,always best to check yourself via manufacturers website.

It's currently a busy time of year and I needed a working laptop. Once things die down I plan on investigating further. Just wasn't worth the time at the moment and I knew Windows 7 would work.

Totally agree. The closest I have come to 8 was helping others and running in a vm environment.

And thanks Mem, I get where you are coming from now.
