Downloaded it, installed it, enjoying it!!

driver issues...wireless PCI wont work... no network... well... will play with it more over the weekend. Liking it for now. very similar to 7, it's 7 plus some bells n whistles to give it more app like environment, not bad, boot time seems to be a tad slower than 7, maybe same... clocked it at 33 seconds verses 31 for 7 when it was freshly installed.

that is weird, both my startup and shutdown times are noticeably better. i did not have any driver issues at all, i liked how it installed them all for me right away. including my soundcard drivers which i have always had to do

only thing i have not been able to figure out is there is program i want to start with windows but windows will not let it start with it. i have tried permissions by right clicking on the EXE for the program but no luck, yet.

Running nicely on my rig.

Detected all of my drivers right off the bat. Although I of course updated a few, but still a good effort by Microsoft.

Shutdown is very fast, startup this morning was faster it seemed. Will clock it again.

Shutdown is very fast, startup this morning was faster it seemed. Will clock it again.
It detected ALL drivers, except for my wireless card its very old Linksys PCI card, even for win 7 I have to use 3rd party, its not MS, its me l have a new Asus card on other comp will swap and try that.

All my hardware installed fine even when I installed Win8 via cordless mouse and keyboard,wireless USB NIC also working fine once I entered my security key,Audigy 4 sound card running ok too.


I'm still using Win7 as main PC for gaming and general use but going to give Win8 a long play and chance on my backup PC.

Bottomline Win8 was a very smooth install,faultless.

Logitech keyboard/mouse drivers don't work well, and my auzentech soundcard wont install...so I using the built in real audio.

I was hoping windows would install everything and I can just install GPu drivers.

It should pickup most drivers, if not it could get them from windows update or the windows 7 drivers should work

Anyone missing drives? I just realized I am missing a 500GB hdd. I have 1 ssd and 2 hdd, OS are on ssd. When I go back into Win7 I see it but when I go into win8 it disappears... Its just a data drive with music movies pics n backups, nothing related to OS...

Does it show under Disk Management?

Same thing happened to me, I went into disk management and assigned a drive letter.

Simple design that Apple and Android will soon imitate.
Windows 7 stability.
Start button is not gone, just improved on.
Corner/Side usage is cool, efficient and all around convenient.

Using it on my 3 display setup. Single display probably would suck. Screen usage is everything on a single display setup so I'm not seeing it work well.

ie10 seem incomplete but extremely fast/snappy.

Keyboards come with buttons that activate the charms (look @ function keys):

I think the keybaord charm buttons should become a standard or at least be adopted by most OEMs, it will make life a lot easier for people.

Everything you just said is the exact opposite of how I and most other people feel. The layout is just plain dumb. The did everything they could to make it ugly. No more Aero, so the desktop windows don't look as nice. Big ass blocks for program icons, no thanks I am passing.

I actually know what your talking about. After using it on a multiple display setup I disagree. I "big ass blocks" have a purpose and will be very interesting going forward. The live feeds and changing media makes it feel more user friendly than a normal static desktop.

Aero is gone? I have a feeling you never used Win8 before. In fact I believe 99% of the people complaining about it have never used it. Typical heard mentality..... But to each their own.

I agree that the hot corners need to be worked on. Also I would have liked for MS to have kept the DP start button. Even though clicking it defaulted to the Start Screen it would have eased peoples mind and also would have somewhat hammered the point that this replaces the Start Menu. Other than that I'm fine with how most things are.

Edit: Aero being taken out is a big plus. Faux glass/useless transparency is bad design and for an OS made with mobile devices in mind, it makes sense removing the useless battery drain.

I am not sure what people are whining about, I absolutely love it, I am still struggling with to find my way around but its fun! When I go back to 7 it feel to archaic, 8 feels to fresh and fun. Its so fast and responsive. People will get used to it, in fact once they do they will realize how dumb and boring 7 was. 8 makes PC feel like a smart phone, its will bring a new life to Desktops and laptops. The power of the processors, memory and video card, combined with the fun of smart phones.
I think two kind of people will hate it, Apple fanboys and people who are jealous coz they wont be able to afford it.

The response on the internet is very typical of anytime Microsoft comes up with something great. Their comparators flood the internet with misinformation by focusing too much on few negative aspects. MS has a terrible PR and as usual eventually the product will speak for itself but will then haters gonna hate... Its a great product MS, good job!

I do not want a smart phone on my desktop. If i want a smart phone I will pick up my iPhone.

I love Aero, and I do agree it is not meant for tablets, but when I use my desktop that is where I get real work done. Tablets are for play.
