I do not want a smart phone on my desktop. If i want a smart phone I will pick up my iPhone.

I love Aero, and I do agree it is not meant for tablets, but when I use my desktop that is where I get real work done. Tablets are for play.

Lol, you just proved my point, complaining just because you have to, because you probably don't like MS. don't want the new features, just switch to old view, nothing to complain about...

The problem is there is no way to do things the old way. You are forced into a crappy interface that does nothing but waste space, and make things harder to do, not easier.

And I do like most of Microsoft's products, I run most of them at home and/or at work. But this one is a steaming pile of buffalo dung.

I agree the first screen you see is the smartphone looking one, but amongst those icons/apps, there's one called desktop, click on that and you are back to old desktop, without the start button of course...but you can pretty much do everything...

That is the problem. The start menu now takes up the whole damn screen. When I multitask and need to go to the start menu for something I can no longer see what I was doing in the background cause that worthless start screen takes up all my screen space now on a 2560x1600 monitor.

Also, there is no more metro to keep the desktop windows looking good.

Just pin all the apps you use to the taskbar. Seriously I never used the start menu in either Windows 7 or 8.

I use search extensively in both 7 and 8 but it doesn't bother me that for the second or two I'm searching that it takes up the entire screen. After I'm done I hit the windows key and go back.

I feel Microsoft should of made two different versions ie one for tablet and one for desktop users, its trying to be both(more towards tablet) at it stands.

Removing Aero I can understand ie longer battery life for tablet/laptops,but they should of left an option for using Aero, especially for desktop users,I feel desktop users got the short straw with Win8.
Think I'll upgrade my new laptop from Win7 to 8 version (only £14.99 upgrade for my new Samsung laptop)and keep my gaming PC on Win7 for now.

It'll be interesting to see how Win9 pans out for desktop users.

Pro-order opened today, damn its cheap. OEM base verison is $100 and OEM pro is $140. Is it just preorder price or the regular price? Also, are these two the only version, or is there a Ultimate version too?

How did you pre-order? I still can't find any links for the $39.99 upgrade offer.
