Windows 7 Service Pack 1 just came out via Windows Update?

Damn. I thought I kept up to date but I just noticed it appeared in Windows Update.

I know. Wrong forum. But still its something most people should be a aware of.

anything good?
Nah. I have been following the development and MS says its not especially for enhanced stability nor new features. Just minor stuff.

In fact, if you read between the lines, its to get corporations to update to Windows 7 because "you always wait for the service pack" mentality.

Going by what has happened in the past with initial official service pack updates, I will wait a few weeks before installing it.

Yep. I had just set up a brand new windows 7 computer and decided to put it on. Then I couldn't install Adobe Reader thru their website, had to download manually. Same with Java.

people are having issues installing it, from win update, from the exe, from the DVD

it also breaks some things so be weary

Most of the updates in SP1, you've probably already downloaded/installed. For a lot of folks, it appears the update only downloads 70mb out of a possible 900mb to install.

Installed just fine, I couldn't really tell what changed. I didn't see anything new or different, most of it is probably just putting together all the updates that have come out since Win 7 first came out.

I noticed that one of the fixes in SP1 is to prevent the loss of HDMI audio on reboots. I have had this problem, so I am hopeful it works.

Installed it a few days ago on 4 different systems (DVD downloaded from Technet), 2 desktops, 1 laptop, and the HTPC and no problems so far. I was also having the HDMI audio problem once in a while on the HTPC and it hasn't happened since the SP1 install.

When you say audio problems, was it cutting out for a few seconds every 15-20 minutes?

I had that problem on my HTPC, but it seems a fix came out several months ago that fixed it.

Don't do it. I installed it and now I get blue screens everywhere and it raped my dog. Also, it underclocked my i7 CPU to 233MHz and turned it into a K6-2.

Lies my quad core is now a octocore and I won powerball. Sp1 is the greatest thing ever.

Nope. After a reboot sometimes the HDMI audio device would show as disabled and I would get no sound at all in Windows or Media Center. It usually required one or two more reboots to get it working again.

Doesn't work for me. I wonder if the fact I'm running Vista has anything to do with it.
