The only thing that could change is the bundled drivers.
That build number has all the code locked down so it is done, no further changes allowed to Windows 7 itself. The retail ISO could be different though due to the driver changes.

So if you decided to install this, you'd need a legit retail key to have any sort of success?

Correct
note:
It is no longer beta so downloading it would be piracy.

Sooo.... how are people installing the version on torrents if there aren't any legit retail CD keys out yet?

Update: Please note that 7600.16384 may not be the final build of Windows 7 RTM, this could be increased in the same way Windows Vista was, meaning any sub-set of build 7600 (7600.16385, 16386, etc...) can be RTM.

Like Vista you can install without a valid key and use. It will run perfectly until the activation period runs out then it switches to limited mode. That should buy enough time to find a solution. ;)

you can do 120 days without any funny business. So i think it would be a good idea to wait for 10 days or so, if you dont want to reinstall again when you get your key. Or just keep running a RC branch till you get your key.

Also you should know that this may not be the final build. The only conformation we have is from random hackers, not from microsoft.

I'll just wait to download it legitimately, and also when I receive a legit key. No hassle. No chance of virii. Another 30 days of using the RC isn't going to kill me. I haven't run into any major bugs on it and it's also my backup machine.

Windows 7 Team Blog: RTM not signed off on July 13.

7:00 PM Monday, July 13, 2009:
"We are close, but have not yet signed off on Windows 7. When we RTM you will most certainly hear it here. As we?ve said all along, we will RTM Windows 7 when it?s ready. As previously stated, we expect Windows 7 to RTM in the 2nd half of July"

Also, there was no announcement at the MS World-Wide Partner Conference.

yeah i bet its true too, couple more days should have final rtm. Though wont install until after the 22, so 3 reloads would be enough time to get valid key.

Why all the burning desire to download the RTM version? The RC is so completely usable and you can legally run it until next summer. Who cares about the RTM version prior to actually receiving our pre-ordered retail versions?

I don't get it :(

I think people want to install the RTM and install their apps and get on with it. The RC is time bombed and won't be able to be directly upgraded.

There are some issues in the RC causing problems for some. If you have to download a newer version I would download 7260 . It is so close to the RTM that you really can't tell the two apart. It also will let you register with the RC key.

It is funny why 1638 was not approved.

I'm going to wait until Oct/Nov do a full hardware upgrade then buy Win7 ,some people can't wait ;).

One benefit in waiting for official release is driver support later will be better for Win7,I know I need to wait for some Win7 drivers so installing RTM anytime soon is not really an option for me.

Exactly.
We are tired of the dual boots and we find all our hardware is supported as well as the thing being remarkably stable. Let's quit wasting time and start getting productive.
And what's up with the planned couple of weeks delay in getting it out to MSDN & TechNet Subscribers?
